Very Strange behavior of WCG

Ever since I bought this new PC I have had some very strange things happening. The most recent is that I stop crunching for several hours and come home and ll the work modules are gone and new ones just starting. When I left 2 hours ago, they all were at or between 60-70% done, and now they have all vanished and new modules begun. None of the work units were tagged as being critical, so I can't understand why they might have been shipped out to others to finish for being gone for only 2 hours. This is now the second time this has happened in the last two days. It's acting like I'm hitting the project reset tab, but I'm not. Any ideas out there why this might be happening? Thanks in advance!

Please post the the lines in your event log for when this event has occurred. Post about 15 or 20 before and about that many after. We may be able to see what occurred.
Cheers

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

See how it requests new tasks? I had a full array of work units, none of which were close to being done. It just took those away and set new ones!

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

What does it show in the 'result status' on the website for your units?
Some PCs do have problems with MIP1 work units. I need to close the BOINC client so that all work units are stopped before shutting down the PC. If I do not do this many MIP1 work units fail when BOINC starts again. An alternative is to hibernate the PC instead of shutting down.

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

Thank you for the insight. I do shutdown BOINC every night, but I guess that's not enough. I wish I understood why it is suddenly behaving this way. This morning when I opened BOINC again, four units had disappeared and replaced with new ones. What's the point of crunching if it just takes work units away before they are finished? I sure hope I don't have to leave my PC on overnight to stop this from happening. If you have any other ideas, please let me know as I'm at an impasse.

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

Well you didn't answer his question about what the results status page was stating. So, you could start there.

Then, I would try running a different sub project to confirm whether it is just the MIP1 work units causing you the trouble or not.

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

According to the results log, every work unit over the last two days is in progress....nothing is finished. That makes sense since the program is causing the units to disappear and be replaced every time I end the program and turn off my PC. So, I'm just wasting electricity to crunch units which will not count at the end of the day. Can you think of anything else that might be the cause of this issue? I'm thoroughly frustrated Thanks in advance! !

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

That would seem to indicate that they weren't deleted otherwise they would be listed as in error status or detached or something to that effect. On the main BOINCMgr screen, there is a button to the left at the top. It toggles between "show all tasks" and "show active tasks" if the button says "show all tasks", click it and it should should all the tasks on your system whether they are running or not. They may give you a hint as to what the problem might be. It sounds like you might not be seeing all the tasks just the active ones. Just a thought

Re: Very Strange behavior of WCG

That was a great idea Doneske, bur now I'm even more confused. I was able to check for invalid results, results which led to error, or that were processed too late, and aborted. All of those fields were empty. Lots of pending work units though. But why would the work units by cleared out at night when they are not even done, nor even flagged a critical (and thus turned our to others to finish)? The mysteries of BOINC never fail to flummox me!
