While I'm at it, here is another problem. I opted in for the TB project perhaps two weeks ago and I have never received a work unit yet. All the other projects are running and engaged, but not the one for TB research. I'm at a loss to understand why BOINC is so irregular. Prior to buying my new PC I never encountered any issues such as these. Very strange stuff!

Hi W.Q.P.,
I'm still not clear that you're looking at the WCG website to see the status of your results. You need to be at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewBoincResults.do to see what the server sees, as opposed to what your client sees. What statuses do you see here? If it's MIP units that are failing on restart, you might also want to read the thread at https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,40708 as well. You may not be using the best version of BOINC. Also, you mention HSTB not giving you work. There were only 1,796 results returned for this sub-project yesterday -- so they're very hard to catch. Look around the forum if you really want to find how you can, but you need a little technical prowess (or a lot of patience). Good luck sorting this all out. |

Hi Apis and thanks. As it turns out, I was at the right place when I gathered the data on my results. What I did not know, however, is how few work units for the TB project are floating around out there. So that explains that issue. I'm still stymied on the other problem though.

Based on what you are stating, it doesn't seem to me that any of the original WUs have been returned from your machine. I thought you stated somewhere above that they all showed as still being "in progress". I think they are still on your computer but you may not be seeing them. Have you tried toggling the "show all tasks / show active tasks" button under boincmgr on your computer? This is not on the WCG website but under boincmgr

Hi Doneske and thanks for the suggestion! I did look in 'all tasks' and there were four units which were done, yet had not reported. They were not evident in the running list of 12 work units. I updated them so they would be counted. Having said that, none of these units say when they were finished, so I can't say of some of these were for yesterday or even from this morning when it did it again. This finding is at least hopeful as maybe some units are hidden, only to be finished later after the new units appear, and thus not lost (maybe). But why these unfinished units should disappear upon starting the PC and running BOINC, and replaced with new units, is still very unclear to me. I'll keep an eye out using 'all tasks' to see if other units finish and remain there unreported.

Is this the correct account? There has been recent results returned under W.Q.P. but not under Bill. Was this boinc installation done under the right account? Both of my PCs are running under W.Q.P. I can see them both there. Why it says Bill I don't know. One PC might be designated Bill (the much older one), while the other one I know simply says Windows, with some other stuff added in. So I wonder if that is just the name of one PC. Both show under W.Q.P. though.

That is your Windows account on your machine.. I normally don't run Windows so I had to go back, boot Windows and start boinc to test. Another thing that looks a little strange to me is the line that states GPU computation was suspended -- user request and then WCG resumed by user. Are you doing other work on the PC? It's a little difficult working from one log snippet. There are other things that can be checked such as on_frac and active_frac in the client_state.xml file but it may be easier to completely uninstall BOINC and re-install to see if the problem goes away. I haven't seen anything that indicates to me that the WUs have been returned or cancelled.

Thanks Doneske for the feedback. I'm not running anything else on the two PCs, and I don't know why it keeps trying to recruit the GPU either. I have the GPU option off, but maybe I should just delete BOINC and re-install it again as you suggested. I'll give it a try and see if that take care of this issue. Thanks again!

I offer a suggestion and something else to try. First the suggestion: Why not just let the PC run unattended in "Performance" mode with "Never" in the timeout options. If you need to shut off or restart the machine, go into the Advanced tab of BOINC, select "Suspend", select "Tasks" to make sure all tasks for all projects are suspended, close the BOINC window, and then shutdown, restart or whatever you want to do. A user suspension initiates a checkpoint for active tasks. When the system comes back up, change "Suspend" to "Run based upon preferences". Checkpoints will restore all active tasks to the last checkpoint and continue.
