Jim, you have a very small buffer for such a long running WU. I have mine set to 9.5+0.5 as there is a 10 day allowance for completion. Thanks, I am well aware of buffers. That does not affect my remarks. WCG is actually one project where a small buffer works fine, since it is very reliable. A big buffer is of more use in projects that have server problems. NB: The size of the buffer does not affect the rate at which you can process the work units. If they send you one a day, you can only process one a day, regardless of the size of the buffer; it could be a 10-day buffer and you could still process only one a day. The size of the buffer matters because you want to fill up when the WUs are flowing. So when the well runs dry, you have some in your queue.

Sure, that is what buffers are for. But TB is not treated differently than any other project. I never have buffers run dry in WCG, so a larger buffer does not get me any more TB to process.

As this is the HSTB forum, we were talking about HSTB only. That has frequently dried up although WCG as a whole has not.

As this is the HSTB forum, we were talking about HSTB only. That has frequently dried up although WCG as a whole has not. Mike If you choose the other WCG projects as I do, then they don't dry up. If you choose HSTB only, then of course they do. In fact, your PC will be sitting idle much of the time. That is a waste of computing resources. Or, if you buffer enough, that MIGHT be able to bridge the gap between HSTB work units and allow you to work continuously. That gets back to my original point. It does nothing to speed up the HSTB project, it just diverts work from one user to another. It is OK with me, if that is what you want. |

Just passed the 19 year mark so I'm starting to shorten up the caches in preparation for switching to other projects.

Great to hear it widdershins. Let us know when you hit that target as that has been a long time coming.

I seem to be getting a steady supply for the past 10 days or so.

There has been a steady return of around 8000 units a day, which correlates.
