Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

The footnote says there will be GPU WU but none now.

There will not be any GPU work for this project. The footnotes referenced on the system requirements page are for 32/64 bit versions and the recommendation to use the setting to leave application in memory when suspended.
Thanks,
armstrdj

Good to know, but system requirements says:
"4. Version for GPU is available (Open CL 1.1) (Note: Currently no applications have GPU version available.)"

Oh I see, you listed a footnote that had not been referenced with a superscript. Bad form.

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

After the 1st checkpoint, you have a good estimation how long the whole task will last to finish.

Yes but how can one tell you've reached a checkpoint???
I'd like to have a breakpoint to adjust RAM.

If I remember correctly, there are 8 checkpoints distributed equally throughout the task. So, every 12.5% there should be a checkpoint. At least that's how it was in the beta.

Look in the task properties of BOINC manager. It will tell the time the last checkpoint was taken and how much time has passed since then.

A third bullet was added to the list in the original post in this thread to discuss work unit availability.

Thanks,

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

Dear WCG admins - If you are going to release a new project and send me an email that I haven't contributed for a while then make work units available for this, the new project.
Thanks.

Agree.
Nothing but "No work available ..." since yesterday.

Re: For Current Volunteers: Advance Information on Our Newest Project

amstrdj did not respond to various questions in this thread, but, I'm sure there is simply a limit to the number of areas computed simultaneous, if not for the noted storage limitation, after which the wait is for a result to finish and report before the followup is generated. With 1 year simulation, that's 183 tasks in a sequence. Then if there are 10,000 areas simulated you wont see more than 10,000 flowing, tops.

My system, a I7-4770 has a hard time computing one and is user impacted by ARP1, so I'm keeping the default at 1 with an estimated total completion time of 30 hours after 28 hours done. BoincStats shows 7 checkpoints taken, the last 1:26 hours ago, so about 3.5 hours per checkpoint.

It is also just people filling up their buffers (not a good idea on this one). But once the rush is past, we may see more.
