Re: Work Available

Unit finished - 37 hours runtime. I do not have any other long-running units immediately visible in my history.

Re: Work Available

Hi Mike,

Just got 0033790_097, a triplet with 24 second time step.

Cheers,
Mark

Re: Work Available

I processed my job log on that system, and got:
ARP1_0033318_089_1 has elapsed time of 38 hours.
ARP1_0033471_095_0 has elapsed time of 37.5 hours.
and a possible third:
ARP1_0033868_091_2 has elapsed time of 18.25 hours.
I can easily do the same for others if desired - upload your job log, and tell me beyond what runtime something should be considered worthy of note.

Re: Work Available

Mike,

Is it worth starting a separate thread for 24 second time-step tasks, beginning with a list of ones that have been confirmed as 24-bit by a user and those that are judged on other criteria (such as very long run time or the low iteration number...); it might make for easier collection, collation and management :-)

Just a thought (and I guess you might have such lists!...)

Cheers - Al.

Re: Work Available

phytell

Very informative. You had already notified 33471, but not the other 2.

33318 is an obvious unstuck unit because of the time taken so has been added to my spreadsheet.

33868 is not so obvious. Your normal crunching time was 13 hours based on 25743. 33868 is nearly 50% higher than that so is close to the range of 150%-300% that has been observed. Its number is also within the range identified so far of 32608-34706.

These previously stuck units all have a time step of 24 seconds instead of 36 seconds. They can be identified by looking at the progress % in BOINC Manager. If it increases by 0.014% (occasionally 0.013%) then that is a 24 second time step. If it increases by 0.021% (occasionally 0.020%) then that is the standard 36 second time step.

Because every machine performs differently, there is no set time range so has to be based on your previous averages, but those progress increments are exact.

Thank you for offering to help.

Re: Work Available

Al

Here is my spreadsheet so far. Unfortunately it has not come across in the correct format. Next time (in a few days) it will be better.
The column headings are the date (all January except for 27 December) and show the generation that the unit was on on that date.
Each hyphen corresponds to a date. 10 Jan was ignored as none reported.

Unstuck Units 24 second time step

Unit 27/12 4 5 6 7 8 9 11 12

32608 - - - - - - - 95 -
33316 - - - - - 92 - - -
33318 - - - - - - - - 89
33471 - - - - - - - 95 -
33475 - 101 - - - - - - -

Remaining Stuck Units - these show the generation they are stuck in and the numbers in that generation. They can't be identified because they are not being distributed.
