And is now on its 6th attempt to validate. Will it succeed? How many times will it take? Will it re-stick?
Interesting! Mike |

Unfortunately I can't perform the step verification, because units only get added to the job log when completed.

Do you not have BOINC Manager?

The leading normal unit and the leading accelerated (priority) unit have both moved on by 1 generation to 128 & 118 respectively. The leading extreme unit would have moved on to 113 but there are none in generations 110-113, so their leader is in generation 109. The leading ultra is in generation 082.
There are 133 units eligible for extreme status, including the 6 ultras. This leaves 127 where there were 130 stuck units, so 3 must have escaped the extreme classification. The 6 ultras should all have 36 second time steps. Any others below generation 113 should have 24 second time steps and so take much longer to crunch (150%-300% of normal time), as would the 3 others that escaped. The current calculated end date is 12 October, without those university machines coming back from their holiday. 1 unstuck unit in 091 is struggling to validate. It is now in its 6th incarnation. We had a meeting with the research team today and those units that had the time step changed to 24 can be moved back to 36 now that they have moved passed the challenging conditions. This will be a technique that we use going forward that when a given unit on a given generation cannot successfully complete the run we will lower the time step and retry the run and then bring it back to 36 for subsequent generations.
----------------------------------------This means that there should be extremely few of the long-running workunits for this project going forward. [Edit 1 times, last edit by knreed at Jan 13, 2022 10:33:37 PM] |

I do have the manager - that's where my original post came from. However, I don't watch the machine terribly closely, so it would be easy for long-running units to go by without my notice.
That's why I chose to process the job log for outliers: every unit that completes is listed there, meaning that if I didn't see one run, as was the case, there would be another way I could report it here to help discovery. My offer was aimed at others who have machines they don't pay close attention to. |

No need to watch closely. If your whole unit takes 37 hours to finish, 1% would only take 22 minutes and 0.02% would take less than half a minute. Shorter units would take even less time.
So we are only taking about half a minute to verify whether a unit has a 24 or 36 second time step. Also, at present, all the units in generations below 088 should be 36 second ultras and those between 089 and 113 should be 24 second unstuck units. Just recording all units in generations below 113 once a day would suffice, but if you could verify whether they are 24 or 36 it would take only a few extra moments, that would be appreciated. Thank you. Mike |

Thank you, entity. Sgt. Joe will be pleased.
I have recorded the advancement. Mike |
