This is a neighbour of 1 of the 3 ultras. If it has not been started, there is no need as 2 valids have already been registered (the 2nd was after your copy was issued).
If it is is still running, please advise the time step used. You can tell this from the Progress %. If it increments in 0.020%/0.021% then the time step is 36 seconds. 24 seconds would be 0.013%/0.014%. The double % figures are because the exact figures are 0.020833333% and 0.013888888%. You should still get credit if it is returned before the deadline. Mike |

I got one resend and one new/fresh ARP last night. still don't have as many as I ask for, so I think they are throttling new ARPs

It is disappointing to see that no extremes have validated today. Are they being issued?

Mike
Do you understand that these extremes have been previously issued and need to be reissued? If so, do they need to be reissued from ARP or searched for and reissued by WCG. Or are they in the clouds out there somewhere? My understanding is that successive work units depend on those that have gone before. Are the missing not a hole in the project then? It seems that the issuance of new units has slowed down. Could this time be used to fix the above? Perhaps stop new, issue missing, restart new. Also, what is it about ARP units that are indigestible? |

Thank you, Speedy51. That has now been validated.

----------------------------------------Mike Do you understand that these extremes have been previously issued and need to be reissued? If so, do they need to be reissued from ARP or searched for and reissued by WCG. Or are they in the clouds out there somewhere? My understanding is that successive work units depend on those that have gone before. Are the missing not a hole in the project then? It seems that the issuance of new units has slowed down. Could this time be used to fix the above? Perhaps stop new, issue missing, restart new. Also, what is it about ARP units that are indigestible? As I understand it, a unit is issued to 2 machines. If either or both errors or no replies then another copy (or 2) is issued and this carries on until 5 errors have been returned (no replies do not count against this number) or 2 valids returned. If 2 valids then that patch of Africa is then moved on to the next generation and the process starts again. If 5 errors have been received then that patch is re-started on the same generation with a shorter time step (24 seconds instead of the normal 36 seconds). You can see the difference in time step the Progress column of BOINC Manager. The normal is incremented in amounts of 0.020% or 0.021% (actually 0.02083333%) and the shorter by 0.013% or 0.014% (actually 0.01388888%). This is probably due to some more extreme weather occurring on that patch at that time. At one time, those with 5 errors were stored until they came up with this strategy, so got way behind the others. If the shorter time step works then that is continued for 2 or 3 generations before reverting to normal. If not then they could back-track a few generations and re-start with the shorter time step or use an even shorter time step, but I don't believe that has been necessary. To enable the laggards to catch up they applied definitions to all units. Those within 10 generations of the leaders became 'normal', those within 15 generations became 'accelerated' and the rest became 'extreme'. The term 'ultra' was coined by me to apply to the 3 units which are way behind all the others. The normals go out with a 6-day deadline (3 on re-send after over half the original period), the accelerated with a 3-day deadline (1.5) and the extremes also on 3-day (1.5) but to 3 machines instead of 2. I hope this has covered your question? Mike [Edit 1 times, last edit by Mike.Gibson at Apr 14, 2023 11:58:02 AM] |

I got these two yesterday. They should be finished sometime today. Both of them had a variety of problems such as no reply, detached, and error.
