Re: Work Available

It will be interesting to see what the papers say when they are released/published

Aurum420 Out of complete curiosity can I ask what age range of hardware you are using thank you are seeing checkpoints takes 6+ hours, does this increase the length of the overall task?

Re: Work Available

Aurum420 thank you for the information. Our lives 7 task my runtime from smallest to longest is 8.81 to 12.59 hours I am using 1 desktop computer with a AMD 3900 X running on 12 threads using Windows 10 professional

Re: Work Available

Yes I agree ARP does not like hyperthreading hence why I only run on 12 of my threads at a time. Thanks for PDF document. The way I see it having slower CPUs are good for adding to your runtime

Re: Work Available

After various tries, and using now massively app_config.xml on my machines, I apply the following strategy:
  • Hyperthreading: yes
  • ARP1 + MIP1 = (max threads/2) - 1
  • The left available threads are devoted to OPN1, MCM1, and SCC1 (when available)

It is surely not the most performant strategy but it supports a reasonable balance between the projects I would like to contribute to.
Cheers,
Yves

Re: Work Available

Whilst I agree with the observations made, I find hyperthreading works if arp is restricted to half the threads or mip to one third of threads. However I don't push my luck.
With both together on an 8 thread machine, i7-3770 with 4 cores, I have set its profile to 4 arp, 2 mip, 3 mcm and 2 opn. That allows me to hold 3 units in reserve.
app_config.xml is set to 3 arp, 2 mip, 2 mcm & 2 opn. The one that doesn't get its full quota is usually mip because that has a 10 day deadline and the others have 7 days, but it allows for possible interruptions in supply for long enough for me to spot.
My older, slower, laptop with 4 threads isn't set to run arp ever since it was given a 3.5 day resend which regularly took 4 days plus queuing time and didn't get its credits. That resend should never have gone to that machine. It is set up for 2 mip, 2 mcm and 2 opn, but only runs 1 mip at a time, because of the longer deadline, with 3 between the other 2.
That leaves my tablet & phone which are both 4 core/thread and are currently running mcm & opn.
All are set to also receive scc whenever it returns. hst is not set at the moment because I already have diamond (5 year) on that, but should come back into play once the others have reached that target.
mcm is the exception because I am 4.5 years away from my 20 year badge and I have prostate cancer, thankfully reduced to a very low PSA now.

Re: Work Available

This is interesting. I am getting "No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project". One of the annoyances of WCG is that they give no statistics on work available. Are we out for 5 minutes or 5 days?

Jim
arp are readily available, but that doesn't mean that they are instantly available. They are still releasing them randomly. I suspect that you have requested a new unit when the latest batch has just run out. The next batch should be released soon. I hold a cache of 4 units, 3 of which are running at any one time. I normally have all 4 but for brief periods I sometimes get down to 3.
