Re: OpenPandemics - COVID-19 is Now Live

A lot more actual PR is needed to boost this project. WCG overall grew from about 540 Years daily to 640 Years, meaning the bulk of the 340 years runtime for OPN1 came from internal resource shifting and probably a good number of dormant members who came back for this.

Very interesting, thanks for the info. It shows that the contribution of everyone makes a difference. And we need people who can fill in the gaps when power-crunchers leave for one or another reason.

Crunching on...

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID-19 is Now Live

So with that much compute power leaving, it seems that we are still increasing output from other/new members. Otherwise the overall drop would have been more pronounced. Hopefully we can continue to get more cores online from new or existing members to push this along.

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID-19 is Now Live

I can't say from when exactly as I did not note it down, but maybe a week before the launch, I started looking at the total members. Think there are about 2,000 more now.

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID-19 is Now Live

Think the 3rd graph at BOINCStats is the telling, the others are probably reflective of WCG clearing out the multi-year inactive

https://www.boincstats.com/stats/15/project/detail/user

Once upon a time WCG had over 100,000 'active' contributors.

Modern Times I suppose. Crunching is not fashionable.

Graph 3 leavers could represent desertions to the other platforms which started COVID-19 earlier.

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID-19 is Now Live

Hi all, I'm guilty of being one of those "lapse" WCG'ers. I was here under a different account awhile back, but life happens and now I'm back, and I consolidated the PCs from that account with this one.

Back then I was only running Windows PCs and some Android devices at home and work. But once OpenPandemics started, I decided to try Linux on the 16 unused Windows computers I have at home, and also found some devices to add to the cause. Looks like I was able to increase performance from over 400gflops a year ago to 520gflops now.

Also, I got my 10-year old son's iOS devices on Dreamlab. I didn't think there was any covid-19 volunteer computing on iOS, but turns out there is one:

The more power to fight covid-19 and future pandemics, the better.

1) you are absolutely not "guilty" - this is a volunteer-based project. We absolutely welcome you back, but I know I'm not going to shame you for taking a break. Life's insane sometimes.

2) That's fantastic. Those devices will be a great help.

Feel free to devote a few cores to some of the other projects - they've lost quite a bit of CPU time to OpenPandemics.

Welcome back catsdomain.

I run Dreamlab every now and then. Vodafone Portugal invested into TV advertising for Dreamlab.
