It seems to be back to normal. The only change I backtracked was the limit set in the XML file and not convinced this was it. Letting my profile do that set at 5 ARP. To build on suggestions Mike has made, can you confirm where you have placed the app_config.xml file and that you have gone to the Options menu and chosen "Read config files" after editing it? I want to be sure it's not simply a matter of it not being loaded and your client just using online preferences alone, which would have allowed for all non-ARP tasks. |

I said I would leave the micromanagement alone but I lied. Can't help but tinker with it.
Agreed from what I read here, ARP MCM OPN are the ones with WUs. The rest are irrelevant. I got 1 HST  With MCM OPN upped 12 there were about 5-6 WUs ready to start. This seemed close to the edge. I had 5 ARPs running so it would not run out of work but... I see a bit more WUs in the cache now (~20) with 5 ARP, 20 MCM OPN, 7 MIP, unlimited HST/SCC. So I am happy. The XML file is in the proper place. I see in the logs: World Community Grid | Found app_config.xml I may have forgotten to hit "Read config files" once with all the tinkering I did. |

----------------------------------------since I am using app_config.xml on each host and I carefully setup the device profiles on WCH web site, I do not do micromanagement any more and it runs very smoothly. Against the limited number of available HST1 WUs, you cannot do much excepted to send back completed WUs regularly. It is the balance between "short" project WUs and the number of concurrent threads; definitively a "many threads host" computing MCM1 or OPN1 WUs will have much more chance to fetch HST1 comparing to a 4 threads host computing ARP1. I think I'm finished now with micromanagement. The current config of my 24 thread machine is even better than before. I use to have 3-4 pages in Boincmgr and now it's 1.5 pages.
Funny about HST, it was my least performing machine (i5-2520M/2.50GHz laptop @ 90% of CPU for heat) which picked it up and it has the default profile minus ARP. Go figure. |

Using app_config.xml and minimising your cache settings is, effectively, micromanagement, but automated.
Having a much shorter queue means that the waiting time of your cache is shorter before starting and so helps to make your machine classify as 'reliable'. Mike |
