Re: 2022-12-08 Update (OPNG workunits, storage update, and missing devices on Contributions page)

Recent update(s) indentified a bottleneck in the file store.
New SSD file store ordered but delayed due parts shortage.

Yeah, the return of ARP units seems to have caused the download issues to reappear as well. Bummer.
And you know this how?

Well the repeated synchronicity of the two events is a good indication :-)

Well, no. You are just making assumptions based on symptoms.
People also did say the same thing and blamed OPNG, but they have not been send in more than two weeks now.

But nonetheless, Krembil needs to wake up and give some update. At least acknowledge the issue, not just pretending everything is peaches and cream...

Hi all, sorry for the late reply. We posted a new forum update about the HTTP errors and if you have any other specific questions for us please leave them in that thread.

If you notice I said indication - I’m not assuming that it *is* linked, I’m suggesting that it is a good possibility.

Missing devices in Contributions page
The fact that only some devices do not show up as a result of this process and remain “hidden” is what we must understand before we can fully resolve the issue. For now, re-running the batch update procedure regularly will help to recover visibility of most devices newly added to WCG. We highly encourage those having this issue to send an email to support@worldcommunitygrid.org with screenshots and extra details you can provide.

If you have any comments or questions, please leave them in this thread for us to answer. Thank you for your support, patience and understanding.

Hi Cyclops,
I am still missing the device I added Dec 1. I sent an email to support over one week ago, but have not received any reply.
Can you help resolve this?

Hi shauge, in our most recent update, we explain we are having a weird issue with our emailing system that is causing responses we write to not be delivered to their recipient. We are working on that issue. As for your device, we think we improved the system to allow for devices to be registered faster. if you have been having this issue for this long, then I can ask the tech team if there is a specific issue with your device.

Dear Cyclops, do you have any idea what happens in the minds of the volunteers of this project if there is no work to be had since friday, and the first message from management after the weekend tries to address a single user email problem without any specifics ('we are working on that issue') ?

I didn't expect any resolution to my support email. I'm not the only person with this problem. I basically got blown off. Great way to treat contributors. Looks like my four machines are moving to FAH and other BOINC projects. I've been here since 2008. This is pretty pathetic and unacceptable. I'm totally out of patience now.

Is updating a device name on a database that difficult? I guess it is for Krembil.

Still no work this morning ...
