kva.pl said "I donated 50 bucks today."

Great, thanks, fantastic!

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

What is the status of recovery. I keep hearing empty promises that things will start up 'soon' but I see no positive movement toward that goal. I have tons of already done WUs waiting to be uploaded for the greater good. It's a pity since these scientists really do depend on our voluntary WU for their projects. This unwanted downtime could literally delay or evenstop development or research on critical answers for cancer, hiv, etc. I don't see the urgency that should be coming from Krembil. Please keep us updated...it's the only hope we have.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

They gave us a nice MCM update today (check news), so science is still happening, just not our boinc bit right now. These people have devoted their careers to doing this science, so there is an urgency on their part, but there is only so much they can do with the people and money they have.

Pick one or two backup boinc projects and set the resource share on the backup projects to 0 and WCG to 100 and be happy. When WCG is back on its feet, your WUs will get accepted, and hopefully soon after we will be doing more science for WCG.

The supply chain is not what it used to be, so be patient. Rage quitting accomplishes nothing. If you can't handle the ups and downs of this project, then do yourself a favor and find a different project (many boinc projects have stability and/or periods of low WUs) for your mental and physical health.

I think Tomahawk has the best idea though. Throw some of your money to the project if you can, and stay positive and supportive. Thank you to all who have donated.

Well, the problem is that for more than a year now, there are more downs than ups. Just seeing everything through those rose colored glasses doesn't help.
Not quitting, but what bothers me the most is the lack of communication and something that I perceive as dishonesty of the folks running the project now.

As I mentioned before, it is rather odd that Krembil supposedly isn't supporting WCG (according to Dr.J) but their advertising is relentlessly posted everywhere.
And it took almost 9 months to finally admit that they do not have the financial resources to run the project... sad

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Sorry to pop up into 'this' but I find it too much optimistic. You hope for work, and you rely upon that hope. Good for you.

But I am more encline to think like TPCBF.

Lots of people see through rose colored glasses. It's far from being all beautiful.

What I think in a nutshell:

science happening on our BOINC bit... we are "doing sciences"... what a joke.

We like to run algorithms and giving computing power to help people who actually work in labs and are in need for money (because if money no need to wait that people compute it for free).

We enjoy computing for free for people to speed up their researches and yeah, in the end, the result matters. But don't tell me we're "doing sciences" because I've done it and it's far from taking a sip of coffee in front of a monitor displaying BOINC running WUs.

The best thing to do if crunching numbers (well, that is said) is to stick to a project backed up by a reliable entity and whose work is useful (whatever the field of research).

WCG met those criteria over 13 month ago. Now it's a total mess.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Why can't UNH/Krembil spare some hardware and loan 1 or 2 server tech folks for a few days to get it running with WCG? Somebody's gonna catch on it's a month (at the rate it's going) that nothings been accomplished and its gonna be egg on their face.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

So how will this downtime affect our streaks?

When will streaks actually be implemented?

Why did we get streaks displayed as a feature if it doesn't work?

Will streaks still be worked on and made to work in the future?

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

There seems to be a lot of hysterics concerning this outage. Simply connect to several projects, (there are many), and when, pretty inevitably, one catches a crab for a few days or weeks, you'd not even notice.

It's good practice and common knowledge among people who work in the IT field : spares.

Concerning the hysterical behaviour following the outage. I'd say people had good stats, badges, streaks, etc. and loses every possibilities to improve that. As I've always thought and said : we are here to crunch numbers, we enjoy it. Glad it helps but ... yeah, badges and stuff.

The fact that WCG comes and goes doesn't help. There has been more down than up and people supporting the project are fed up.
