Yes, Sgt. Joe, some kind of 'load-balancing' (or whatever the buzzword is these days) to keep input and output at a sustainable level based on the current state of the WCG technology platform. Revving up WU production or releases seems to just break more stuff as the various systems are not balancing loads/demands amongst themselves. .

Now with the distribution of ARP1 WUs, the download problems are back causing that machines run dry because of the downloading troubles. I do not seen to be having trouble downloading ARP1 tasks. But I am currently having trouble uploading the results. They do go up, but at about 32KBps even though my data link usually goes at 9375 KBps (fibre-optic to the home Internet connection). I attribute this to US export control at the border from USA to Ontario, Canada. ;-) I'm having upload issues as well with uploading ALL project tasks. I'm just across the river so things must be blocked up at the Ambassador Bridge. My bet would be that somehow the Moroun family is behind it. |

Yes. It's only one of two privately owned international crossings that I'm aware of. The other would be in your neck of the woods.

It is the bridge between International Falls, Mn and Fort Francis Ontario. It used to be owned by Boise Cascade as part of the paper mill complex there. It goes over the Rainy River. I don't know if they still own it or not. I have been over it many years ago on the way to Kenora. Cheers

And that's one of the reasons to use a cache: making sure you have work while you're stuck trying to upload the work you've done. All you can really do in the meantime is to use an "auto clicker", or in other words, a script to tell boinc to try the upload again.

Sgt.Joe:
----------------------------------------Maybe they are releasing them from east to west starting in Europe. By the time they get to the midwest in the U.S. they have used up their supply. ![]() ![]() Wasn't there a proportional division between the number of workunits per project, e.g. ARP1 : MCM1 : SCC1 = 1 : 6 : 1 (just an example), set and adjusted by the techs? Maybe that's why we see so few SCC1-tasks flowing at the moment. I've collected a sample of 10 workunits, 1 per 1,000 workunits, and by the looks of it, they seem to be flowing at a slow pace: workunit 297299752: SCC1_0004096_MyoD1-A_85984_0 Fedora Linux In Progress 2023-05-08T11:51:16 2023-05-14T11:51:16--- workunit 297298752: SCC1_0004128_MyoD1-B_88603_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-08T11:19:59 2023-05-14T11:19:59--- workunit 297297752: SCC1_0004129_MyoD1-B_86022_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-08T10:49:48 2023-05-14T10:49:48--- workunit 297296752: SCC1_0004091_MyoD1-A_78537_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-08T10:22:45 2023-05-14T10:22:45--- workunit 297295752: SCC1_0004142_MyoD1-B_88553_0 Linux Ubuntu In Progress 2023-05-08T09:58:37 2023-05-14T09:58:37--- workunit 297294752: SCC1_0004092_MyoD1-A_89968_0 Linuxmint Valid 2023-05-08T09:30:32 2023-05-08T11:02:36--- workunit 297293752: SCC1_0004074_MyoD1-A_91377_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-08T09:01:18 2023-05-14T09:01:18--- workunit 297292752: SCC1_0004100_MyoD1-A_76961_0 Linux Ubuntu In Progress 2023-05-08T08:33:44 2023-05-14T08:33:44--- workunit 297291752: SCC1_0004095_MyoD1-A_76947_0 Linux GNOME In Progress 2023-05-08T08:05:41 2023-05-14T08:05:41--- workunit 297290752: SCC1_0004137_MyoD1-B_77443_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-08T07:40:16 2023-05-14T07:40:16--- workunit 297289752: SCC1_0004096_MyoD1-A_85547_0 MSWin 10 Valid 2023-05-08T07:16:52 2023-05-08T10:17:47 Now compare this to the pace of MCM1: workunit 302118797 MCM1_0198449_7437_0 Linux openSU In Progress 2023-05-07T22:05:40 2023-05-13T22:05:40workunit 302117797 MCM1_0198445_4035_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-07T22:02:35 2023-05-13T22:02:35workunit 302116797 MCM1_0198446_6904_0 MSWin Server In Progress 2023-05-07T21:59:53 2023-05-13T21:59:53workunit 302115797 MCM1_0198446_6744_0 Darwin In Progress 2023-05-07T21:56:39 2023-05-13T21:56:39workunit 302114797 MCM1_0198446_6636_0 MSWin 10 Valid 2023-05-07T21:53:29 2023-05-07T23:39:04workunit 302113797 MCM1_0198427_4250_0 MSWin 8.1 In Progress 2023-05-07T21:50:29 2023-05-13T21:50:29workunit 302112797 MCM1_0198444_6046_0 Linux Ubuntu In Progress 2023-05-07T21:47:24 2023-05-13T21:47:24workunit 302111797 MCM1_0198449_6492_0 MSWin 11 Pending Validation 2023-05-07T21:44:11 2023-05-08T06:57:52workunit 302110797 MCM1_0198449_6397_0 MSWin 10 In Progress 2023-05-07T21:40:57 2023-05-13T21:40:57workunit 302109797 MCM1_0198449_6223_0 ManjaroLinux In Progress 2023-05-07T21:37:52 2023-05-13T21:37:52 Adri [Edit 3 times, last edit by adriverhoef at May 8, 2023 12:22:41 PM] |

Maybe that's why we see so few SCC1-tasks flowing at the moment. I seem to remember Uplinger posting about the proportionality of resource share associated with each project. They would adjust the amount of the grid based on, the size of the project, the availability of work units, the average time a work unit took to get crunched and probably other factors in order to balance the wants of the crunchers with the needs of the researchers. I remember it would get tweaked from time to time. Cheers

Well, the upload errors that plagued us all weekend seem all to be of a new variant. While the last one had a lot of WUs crap out when then ran well (50-60%) beyond the indicated filesize, the latest round all might run to 100%, then pause for a couple of seconds before getting stuffed with a 107 byte error message and need to be retried. Over and over again...
