Re: The Extremes thread

Adri,
Here's one from generation 108:
Workunit id 654274935.
ARP1_0032724_108_0 Windows 11 In Progress 2025-01-26 04:47:47 UTC 2025-01-27 16:47:47 UTC
ARP1_0032724_108_1 Windows 10 Valid 2025-01-26 04:47:47 UTC 2025-01-27 01:13:56 UTC 20.22 / 20.31 684 / 654
ARP1_0032724_108_2 Windows 10 Valid 2025-01-26 04:47:48 UTC 2025-01-26 16:59:57 UTC 12.08 / 12.1 623.9 / 654
Strictly-speaking, this is a breach of your 5 or fewer rule, though in my defence there were only 4 in generation 108 when I first picked it up. biggrin
Cheers,
Mark

Re: The Extremes thread

Thanks Mark,
Strictly-speaking, this is a breach of your 5 or fewer rule, though in my defence there were only 4 in generation 108 when I first picked it up. biggrin

I have been thinking about this, too, and I would like to relax (not to bend) biggrin the posting rules a bit:

Should the Extreme generation, say x, of your targeted workunit inadvertently have more than 5 workunits and generations x-1 and x+1 contain 5 or less workunits, then posting your workunit from generation x is also allowed. wink

Adri
PS In that case, as an example, my result from generation 115 (x) - that I mentioned earlier in post 701119 - would be allowed, because generation 114 (x-1) contains only 1 workunit at the moment and generation 116 (x+1) contains 4 workunits now.

Re: The Extremes thread

ARP1_0033555_110_x seems to be a very difficult task. It has been running about 32 hours and only 85% completed (about 2.5% per hour). There 8 other ARP1 tasks running on the same machine and they are running normally (almost 5% per hour). I seem to remember Kevin mentioning that there were tasks that were more difficult either due to weather conditions being modeled or geography or both.

Adri,
When I posted, the latest figures for generations 107, 108 and 109 were 1, 7 and 2 respectively, so I am happy to conclude that my post falls within the "relaxed" rule. Phew! smile
Interestingly, according to your excellent table linked in your original post in this thread, generation 108 now has only 3 workunits in it, so if I'd waited a bit before posting, I would have fallen within the "strict" rule. wink
Cheers,
Mark

gj82854,
You have picked up an interesting task which has been the subject of discussion before. See my post here and related posts following it in the ARP "Work Available" thread. It would be interesting to learn what time-step is being used for this task, which has moved on only 8 generations since I last crunched it.
Cheers,
Mark

PS. You can check the time-step while the task is running by opening the namelist.input file in the folder/directory for the relevant slot and searching for "time_step". Normally, it is 36. You can easily find the slot by clicking on Properties for the task in the Boinc Manager. (Apologies if you know all this already!)
Edited to add the PS.

Thank you for checking! That's the same time-step as it had when I was crunching generation 102.
Cheers,
Mark

Re: The Extremes thread

Here's another sighting of a validated workunit in the Extreme category with 5 or less workunits in its current generation (or in its adjacent generations).

(Output generated by ”wcgstats -frrr= 654822259”)
workunit 654822259
ARP1_0034392_111_0 Linux Ubuntu Valid 2025-01-26T23:45:54 2025-01-27T16:07:23 16.08/16.20 581.5/666.8
ARP1_0034392_111_1 Linux Ubuntu InPrg 2025-01-26T23:45:55 2025-01-28T11:45:55 0.00/0.00 0.0/0.0

Re: The Extremes thread

ARP1_0033555_110_1 completed, reported, and validated. Unfortunately, it completed 12 minutes past the deadline so 2 others have gone out. The quorum has been met so the _3 and _4 versions aren't required anymore. I don't think the server will cancel them if they have started execution on a machine. Someone is going to get ARP1_0033555_111_x. Good Luck with it.
