Getting regular operational updates was a nice change, and it's hard to back to all but one project being offline and everything else listed as "soon."
----------------------------------------The backend is stable. The routine connection errors I've gotten since Krembil took over have finally disappeared. Some goals will take work and testing before implementation - while that happens can we please reenable both extremes of the Africa Rainfall Project? The project was time sensitive before the years of delays, and I'd hate to see our contributions become moot. If the servers can handle the data transfers, then we can use that information to lift work unit caps. A fully unrestricted flow of work could wrap it all up in a few months - and who isn't curious to see how much throughput the new setup has enabled? Perhaps they should should start gradually with ARP so they don't break the system again. If they do it gradually, and it does break, they should then know just what the break point is and they can keep it below that. If they on board the new project and that does not break the system, that would be a plus. At least ARP is somewhat of a known quantity. Cheers

Yes, that's what I was getting at, although the feedback is only delayed by the average completion time, so finding the bidirectional limit shouldn't take too long.
WCG has no need to start from zero when we can start from what the old system could reasonably handle and work up from there. |

Most importantly, IMHO, any new project should first be send out as a BETA run, to limit somewhat to whom the files get send out and then adjust as needed before releasing it "into the wild"...Ralf ![]() |

Hello WCG,
I have been trying to set up 5 pc's to process work units from the African Rainfall Project and was able to process a total of 6 units until the system went down in November. Since it has been back up I have not been able to process any. I was looking at the BOINC application and noticed Event Log so I opened it up and low and behold it says that both my AMD and my Intel GPU's are not set up to accept them. Does anyone know what I have to do to allow the GPU's to accept these Tasks???? 1/1/20/2025 8:36:51 PM | World Community Grid | Sending scheduler request: To fetch work. 1/20/2025 8:36:51 PM | World Community Grid | Requesting new tasks for CPU 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks sent 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | No tasks are available for the applications you have selected. 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | Tasks for AMD/ATI GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | Tasks for Intel GPU are available, but your preferences are set to not accept them 1/20/2025 8:36:52 PM | World Community Grid | Project requested delay of 121 seconds Thanks for the Help. |

It's some sort of a glitch. I always get this message “tasks for XXX GPU are available” when for some reason CPU tasks are unavailable.

Does anyone know what I have to do to allow the GPU's to accept these Tasks???? To get GPU work (when any is available) you need to make sure that the relevant WCG device profile has the appropriate item(s) enabled in the Graphics Card Usage section. It's some sort of a glitch. I always get this message “tasks for XXX GPU are available” when for some reason CPU tasks are unavailable. The code that responds to user work requests is simply announcing what applications are available, not whether they actually have any work; that part of the scheduler code doesn't know enough about your hardware and your profile settings to be selective in the messages it sends when it can't find you any work! Think of it as product advertising :-)There are no GPU tasks at the moment. Cheers - Al. |

Does anyone know what I have to do to allow the GPU's to accept these Tasks???? There are no GPU for ARP, the reason why you get that message has been explained by others. For now enable Mapping Cancer Markers in your project preferences, that's the the only work you can currently get from WCG.![]() |

For what it's worth, I received an ARP project last night (Jan. 22) and sent it back this morning (Jan. 23).

For what it's worth, I received an ARP project last night (Jan. 22) and sent it back this morning (Jan. 23). Unfortunately, the project has just started returning a "Server can't open database" error. I got my first one at 20:33 UTC, if that helps anyone. |
