ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members

Please note the banner in my signature line, below. This was provided to us, compliments of "Graham" who is not even a member of our team, but is a member of World Community Grid. Thank you again, Graham, if you happen to read this. To add it to your signature line for use in these WCG forums, I think that all you need to do (depending on your browser) is right-click on the banner, select "copy image location" (or equivalent), then go to "My Forum Profile" on the menu bar above, scroll down to your signature block at the bottom, and paste it in. If that doesn't work, please post and we will figure it out.

Since I have no way to determine email addys for any of our members, this forum looks like my only alternative. However, if any member of the HomeBrewers team (or anyone else for that matter) wants or needs to contact me, please feel free to send email to billvelek at alltel.net

I'm sometimes curious about how our individual team members are doing, so I will occasionally check team-stats for all of us; you can find them here: http://tinyurl.com/7dgcd -- and I have been noticing that 'cristimiss' joined on 11/26/05 but had been showing no points at all until today, and I thought maybe something went wrong or that maybe it was running just under screen-saver mode, which didn't kick in very often. But now that I see that the first task assigned took more than 3 days, I understand.

I want to thank each of you for joining our team. We are doing exceptionally well.

Cheers.

Bill Velek

... scroll down to your signature block at the bottom, and paste it in.

That is incorrect. Instead, go to the top of your Forum Profile Page and click on "Change my signature", and then paste it in.

Cheers.

Hi Bill --

It isn't necessary to start a new thread each time you post in the team forums (actually, it is frowned upon as each team is allowed one recruiting thread). Graham posted instructions on how to set up your signature in his post in the original team thread that I started for you here. That is one of the nice things about keeping to one thread is that information previously posted is still available there.

I consider team Homebrewers my home away from home since I too am a brewer smile

Re: ATTENTION: HomeBrewers team members -- Correction

Hi Dave,

Sorry, but I didn't know that each team needed to stick to just one thread, and from now on I will consider this thread as our official HomeBrewers "team" thread; henceforth I will put all future posts here, and if any members of our team read this, please do likewise. It's also nice to know that you are a very welcome 'honorary' member of our team. And "yes", Graham did post instructions -- and I should have looked them up before posting here.

As for recruitment here, I don't think I have actually attempted to do _any_ "recruiting" in these forums, and I find it hard to believe that anyone could look at my post and think that that was its purpose. While I realize that some folks have built a large team by picking up folks here who don't belong to a team, unless a person here actually brews beer and wants to join us for _that_ reason alone, I am not particularly interested in having them. Frankly, at the risk of offending some folks, it seems to me to be not only a bit juvenile, but even disingenuous to build a huge team through recuitment in these forums -- adding people who are _already_ contributing to the good of WCG. What good does that do, really? I would rather get one NEW member added to WCG from the outside than recruit a hundred folks from this forum. That is why I have spent considerable time and effort trying to recruit from home brewing forums -- trying to recruit people who are not already involved in any other form of grid computing.

I also don't see how anyone can get any satisfaction from saying that they belong to the number one team when all they've done is just joined. Hey, "whatever floats your boat". Instead, I have posted messages on Army Knowledge Online (AKO) to try to recruit people for the U.S. Army team, and I like to think that I have helped that team to grow in the past couple of weeks even though I don't belong to it ... and am actually competing with it. I have also posted messages on a pile of Christian newsgroups without identifying WCG or my HomeBrewers team, but instead just trying to get people to participate in _ANY_ helpful form of grid computing. If I could know that I have recruited people to help in this or any other worthwhile project, regardless of whether they join our HomeBrewers team or not, then I will have accomplished a lot. While team competition is a lot of fun, the primary goal is the betterment of mankind, and I don't see recruitment on these forums as accomplishing anything at all unless it happens to encourage those folks to begin recruiting outside the WCG.

I hope that I haven't said anything here to offend you, Dave, and I appreciate your guidance. Thank you.

Cheers. Bill Velek, Team Captain of the ...

No offense taken Bill biggrin

Being a brewer myself, I am just passing on my year's worth of experience in the forums to help out with the hope your team will grow as it well should.

Soooo CLOSE!!! but "HomeBrewers" can STILL brag

The "HomeBrewers" team was formed on 11/21, and today (12/21) -- in just one month of existence -- we have broken into the top 2000 teams in _almost_ every measure. Unfortunately, we only made it to 2,005 in the "points generated" category with a total of 169,115. The "IBM Kirkland" team holds 1,999th place with 170,348 points, so we missed it by only 1,233 points. It looks like we generated a little over 10,000 points today, so if we perform nearly as well we should definitely be in the top 2000 tomorrow. As for the other categories, out of 8,546 teams today, we rank as follows:
Team Size: #575 (with 13 members)
Total Run Time: #1,975
Points Generated: #2,005
Results Returned: #1,799

Our goal now is to catch the "MillerTime" team as quickly as possible; their rankings are:
Team Size: #1,710 (with 4 members)
Total Run Time: #1,012
Points Generated: #897
Results Returned: #1,097
They have a 364 day headstart with a lead of 301,457 points, but we are going to try to catch them by the end of January, and in doing so we have a good chance of breaking into the top 1,000 in all categories. GO TEAM!!!

HomeBrewers, please try to recuit new members by adding a link to our team onto your email signatures, with perhaps a short note -- especially when posting to any brewing forums. Thanks.
