Hi Graham, If two people know the secret, then it becomes an official rumour - I'm off to inform my waiting teamies with Macs ASAP ![]() Ady, good idea! ![]() My Team Mate merely posted this to me in a PM (he said it was ok to post this as the procedure was simple enough). It was wierd, I rebooted my Mac for the first time in a couple months probably, and there were work units. The only two places I've ever signed up on were WGC for Boinc, and UD for home. Honestly, I've got an iMac coming with a 1.8ghz Core Duo, and I'll be putting XP on it along with OS X. I'll have to see which I end up using more often, but the crunching will only get better with the Core Duo. I had setup the Boinc client, and used WCG as the provider link, just like you would in Windows. For some reason they had jobs ready, before they didn't. I'll be getting an intel mac this week, so I'll let you know if there's anything different, but for now I'm crunching with a PowerMac 2x1.25ghz G4's. ![]() |

If one of our Team Mates can use his Mac here, why is there no news concerning this?

When we first started BOINC, knreed had lots of small bugs to track down the first few weeks. I expect news will come when he feels ready for lots of users.

When we first started BOINC, knreed had lots of small bugs to track down the first few weeks. I expect news will come when he feels ready for lots of users. Lawrence Well, for now, can anyone tell me how a Mac user can do this? Seems as if my Team Mate forgot what procedures he took, as it was some time ago that he joined WCG (he had also registered at UD.org with his PC and here with his Mac around the same time). While we are at it, have the procedures for joining WCG changed since I last complained about it (that you had to download the UD client first)? I mean, can you now simply join WCG *without* downloading the client first? Being able to peruse the Board and try to pick a Team to join? In the past, that was not possible. I *think* it is possible now. Also, as much as some folks think that the "BOINC Wiki" is so informative, I can tell you that it is not. They need more info there; IE: "see WCG for further info". At WCG, it is almost the same thing: "Already a Boinc user?". It is *almost* akin to talking to your ISP, and they tell you to call your local telephone company (or visa versa). You know what I mean. ![]() Thanks for any help. ![]() And yes, I'll "try" to keep it a "secret". ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by Johnny Cool at Apr 11, 2006 1:30:20 AM] |

Looking at 'Start Here' at the first thread: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=4925
The BOINC Account Key for a member can be found by clicking 'My Grid' - 'My Profile'. This should show: BOINC Account Key: BOINC Project URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org BOINC Account Number: BOINC Cross-Project Id: If NO Account Key is listed (yes, this can happen) then click on http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do?regBoinc=true to register with BOINC and be assigned an Account Key. So use 2 windows, one pointing at the page accessed by http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/viewMyProfile.do?regBoinc=true and the other at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php to download the Mac OS X version of BOINC. Once you start the install, just cut-and-paste the Project URL and the Account Key. The 'Start Here' thread has the URL to the 'How-to' section of the BOINC Wiki ( http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Category:BOINC_%22How-To%22_Guide ) which includes 'Installing BOINC on Mac OS/X' at http://boinc-wiki.ath.cx/index.php?title=Installing_BOINC_on_Mac_OS/X You are right. This is more indirect than it should be. But we are not officially supporting the Mac yet, and the WCG website will be getting some changes soon, so maybe . . . . Lawrence |

lawrencehardin, thanks for the reply.
----------------------------------------![]() As far as "BOINC Wiki" goes, they do need some help. I could be wrong, but I saw no site map. Yet, enter "site map" at Wikipedia and you get this: A site map (or sitemap) is a web page that lists the pages on a web site site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. This helps visitors, and search engine robots, to find pages on the site. LOL! Oh well. I copied your post. Thank you once again! |
