Because of the new recommended BOINC version 5.4.9 Account Management System (AMS) System Features become very important to many users. I am shocked, that WCG doesn't support any of them:
http://www.boincstats.com/bam/supported_projects.php Hope it's implemented soon... |

Hi Valtherus,
Supporting the Account Management System will take a lot of server-side programming. I don't know just where it is on the list of priorities, but we have so much to do that I am sure that it will not be done soon. Any comment by knreed would be welcome. Lawrence |

Just in case you think that it has limited demand, AMS is extremely beneficial to anyone who operates remote hosts. It is also beneficial to those that run multiple hosts.
Whilst I can't see anyone dropping support for you because you don't offer AMS, I can see you missing out on new users and new hosts. Prime example I have recently purchased 4 boxes to crunch BOINC projects 24/7, if you supported AMS then automatically these new hosts would be crunching WCG wu's, as it stands I will have to manually sign each host up. Compared to the one click method offered by AMS this will soon become a PITA. Please bear this in mind. |

From the fact that WCG is listed in the left sidebar on the BOINC BAM page i gathered that BAM would work? Several in my team have many machines running under one name and spread around sites, so think they're eager to use it. Reading the instructions also suggest it should work for WCG......not actually tried it.

Hi Sekerob,
If you go to this page ( http://www.boincstats.com/bam/supported_projects.php ) then you will read: Partly supported projects: Project Problem(s) World Community Grid * Doesn't support any AMS function LKawrence |

Hi Valtherus, Supporting the Account Management System will take a lot of server-side programming. I don't know just where it is on the list of priorities, but we have so much to do that I am sure that it will not be done soon. I think with the new BOINC version it should be very far to the top of the list. I completely agree with Trog Dog's opinion. With multiple or remote hosts the manual configuration is soul-destroying. I am glad, that BOINC released a stable version with the AMS feature, so it should be supported by the projects ASAP. I think by doing this step you could recieve much more BOINC users, who are crunching for other BOINC projects yet and who could add the WCG project with one click ... I totally agree with that. I was so eager to use BAM, but now WCG doesn't support AMS it's a lot less interesting. I also believe that lots of potential machines are left unused this way...
----------------------------------------![]() Please try to give this one some more priority, I'm sure that it will be appreciated by lots of other crunchers. And it is a good way to attract extra members and machines. ![]() ![]() |

One important fact has been omitted from this thread.
There are no account managers yet! The BOINCstats Account Manager (BAM) is still in beta, and isn't accepting new registrations. I think we will all have to wait a while, and hopefully WCG will have caught up by the time BOINCstats go live, or someone else presents us with a working account manager. |

BAM opens periodically (I just signed up as it re-opened for another 100 users today). Moreover I suspect the site manager would be happy to open an account specifically for WCG development if that's what it takes. If WCG support for AMS is going to take as long as is implied then starting now, or at least starting to shift priorities now, is probably still a good idea especially to keep and attract multi-host users. Demand for AMS is so high I'm betting a functional AMS site will go fully public before too long. ![]() |
