There is a new recommended version of BOINC ( 5.4.9) available at http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download.php for Windows, Mac and Linux x86, replacing the old 5.2.13 version. I have been using it since this afternoon. It installs over the old package. I right-clicked on my BOINC icon and selected Exit to stop the program. Then I downloaded the installation package and double-clicked on it to install the new BOINC. I chose the type of installation (single user, multiple user or service), told it not to change my screensaver (since I use (blank)) and started it running. It picked up the work unit at the last check point and started crunching. Then I had to click several times on warnings my firewall threw up to allow communications. Everything has been running fine since then.
----------------------------------------If anybody runs into problems with the new version, please let us know. Please state which BOINC version you are running when reporting any BOINC problems. Lawrence Added: Whoops. Don't upgrade just yet if you are using a proxy server. Here is a message from Rom Walton at http://boinc.bakerlab.org/rosetta/forum_thread.php?id=1582#15978 If you use a proxy server you should hold off on upgrading until we have resolved an issue with NTLM authentication. We should have a fix available in a few days. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 13, 2006 11:24:38 AM] |

Yep, been using it for a few days now. One thing to note: The gui part can completely freeze up (the counting part). Kill it and you'll find the Dockers remains running. Restart the GUI and it pickes up at wherever the Dockers continued to go. Very Odd.

Hello retep57,
All I did was suspend the old version of BOINC and then downloaded the new one. Once I dowloaded the new it started it install. Asked me if it was single user and so on. Then it asked if I wanted BOINC as my screensaver. I said yes. Also asked if I wanted it to boot up when computer was started or resarted. It completed the install started running the current project from the old BOINC and that was it. Has some nicer features then the old one. Currently seems to be running good on my machine. Also seems somewhat quicker. I'll see over the next few days as the resulsts start to pour in. |

Keep that up and they'll pull your atta boy badge ![]() ok Dagor Dagorath , this is serious business (LOL) i have 3 puters, one is a dually so i do (ok they do) 96 hrs/day fighting away on wcg... now is gonna be only 95hrs 45 mins :( humrumph and indeed.. i like to think that by keeping them going 24/7 is like 3 times more use than 8hr per day work computer ( that i dont have permission to install btw grrrr).. no doubt i will upgrade to new boinc sooner or later when the mood takes me, ijust thought it would have been SMOOTH doh! i am 99.9% sure that an unistall of old boinc and fresh install of new boinc will do the job... am about 6 hrs away from w/u finish so my true colours will prob come out and i do fresh install ... cheers, in the meantime .. wot new features? i guess i will find out soon enough LOL.... |

Just updated smoothly - and less that 5 mins interruption.
----------------------------------------Leave boing running and download using save to disk. Then stop boinc and run install. Back up and running in minutes. I dont think an uninstall is neccessary or a good idea! I cant see much new yet. The statistics page has some nice new features and better graphs. I thought the "Accounts Manager" feature was there before? Apparently, it is not quite available yet though. |
