Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

Does anyone know of any reason why I might be reiceiving only faah work units on both of my computers? If I disable faah in my project preferences, I get units from other projects, so it's clearly not that my computers can't hack it. Here are details for the computers (I'm not sure what else I can provide!):

WinXP, P4 3.06GHz, 960Mb RAM, BOINC 5.7.5
GoboLinux, AMD Athlon XP+, 512Mb RAM, BOINC 5.6.4

Both have a 3Gb limit set on the BOINC profile, which may well be a factor, although given that they receive work units when faah is disabled, I'm not sure...

Hey giddie

Here's what I've found personally. you seem to be aware that you can
operate under different profiles (be sure to use the BOINC profiles) as
you have selected to ignore faah work units. I have noticed that if I have the time set short on how often to connect to wcg, I believe it is 0.1 days by default, then I will only download one work unit to be ready for when the current one finishes. When it goes to get this work unit, it seems to prefer faah units, no matter what I have selected in my profile. (I always choose to accept other work units if my preferred ones are not available...gotta do somethin !) If, however, I set this for a longer time period, then I stand a better chance of getting what I desire, and you could probably even choose not to download the other types of work units if yours are unavailable. Then, when it does download work, it may get several of the type you want. I have all my faster machines set for 2 days; I'm not worried since they run 24/7 and I am reasonable sure I can always get the work units completed. I've seen as many as 30 or 40 work units cached on my dual core.

Your linux box will probably not like cancer units, as you only have 512 MB, and you need at least 750 or more to get the cancer units. Very few will ever download to a 512 machine.

By the way, make sure that whatever amount of work units you have cached by changing the contact frequency, you are able to complete them on time; there is only 7 days to complete the work units Incomplete or aborted work units simply have to passed out to others later, delaying the whole thing.

Keep em crunching...we'll make 100K yet

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

Hi scalewiz, giddie

scalewiz you are right on the money. I've been hunting and I've found this page http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=start#60

Unless you meet the minimum requirements for a project the work scheduler shouldn't hand out Work Unit's for that project. Something to bear in mind if you have motherboards which share system ram to power the video the amount allocated to video card support could take you under the required minimum.

I have only 2 machines that will crunch Help Defeat Cancer. But there does seem to be a disproportionate number of FAAH's out there and very few HPF2's and FCG's - strange.

btw the minimum system requirements are there to prevent disk thrashing as the agent eats into system memory. HDC is particularly memory intensive (around 270Mb) on memory limited systems this would cause paging between the memory and the disk drive and not deliver the unaffected by the agent experience so there is reason behind those minimum specs

I'm waffling blushing

What I came to say was..

Great Crunching Crew applause

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

Sorry if this is a silly question, but what statistic is it that you're referring to there? If you're talking about points, do you mean WCG points or BOINC points (eg boincstats)?

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

Morning giddie

this is the page I look at most mornings (sad but true wink)

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewStatsByTeamY.do?sort=points

It lists our combined UD and BOINC Points (Boinc points have a 7* factor applied) I realise the BOINC/UD Points allocation is unfair (Mostly BOINC in Autumns Towers) but it's the best we have.

91,369 on a Saturday is great going Team

Another great source of team stats is stats.free-dc.org check out this link it's cool

http://stats.free-dc.org/new/teamstats.php?pr...rby=d0&direction=DESC

Right I must dash and get ready for Church

Keep 'em crunching crew

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

It's crazy o'clock in the UK 1:30am and I've just sent my first automatic telephone bills from my "product" you guessed it myonlinebillingengine.com
It was supposed to take a week to put together but this is week 4 but it's better than my currently one customer was ever expecting so it's worth it just to see the wow factor at work. Anyway as my cat wandered across my keyboard (a sure sign I should have been asleep a while ago) I thought I'd just take a look to see how we are getting on and to my surprise Christian Crew we have another crunching team mate aboard shock

Welcome aboard drdamo hugs thanks for joining us we are slowly and steadily picking up steam which is the way it should be, patiently crunching through those Work Units.

Let's see what the Tuesday stats will bring biggrin

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

Dave,

As I look back through the posts I see that you have given me plenty of chances to be first to welcome new friends aboard. Thanks for the opportunity..... you're WAY to kind biggrin . Thanksgiving, family, church projects & our end of the year crunch at work have wringed every last minute of time from me. d oh . We haven't even had time to finish our Christmas decorating around the house. Oh well... enough excuses. We all lead busy lives.

I'm very late, but I too wanted to welcome our newest crunching friends...
Organist , glynnor , DD-865 , giddie , lgrubb , drick78 & drdamo. I'm sooo glad to have you join us! hugs

Re: Christians are giving... come give with us!

No worries Marcelle I know what it's like. Even though I am chained to this computer in my work I'm only getting a look in around lunch time and now again in the wee small hours .

What news do you think those Team Stats will bring?

It says

"The statistics update will finish in about 16:04 minutes"

unfortunately that's 16 Minutes too long a wait so I bid you adieu

Night all
