Re: Minnesota Crunchers

The aloha is so Hawaiian sounding - meaning warm. The Sunday paper just reported that our area is in for the second coldest February on record - averaging about 0 F (-18 C). However the good news is we will see a warming trend in the coming week to 32 F(0 C). The bad news is it is still dry as a bone here. Hopefully when April hits we will get some April showers. It is a lot easier to see the rain than have to shovel the snow. But we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Hopefull it does not go overboard all at once.
Gollumer: It would be nice to see brink here, but as long as he is crunchin it is all good. Sorry to hear his bosses have put the kibosh on another of his(?) training rooms. sad

Cheers

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

Did you know Gollumer, Growler, IM Tbone, elagrew and myself all work at the same place and we are all in the IS department in the same row of cells cubes? I was lucky enough to be the first one to join WCG and that's how I got most of the PCs here on the grid.
The training rooms here were temporary and were for our employees to use to learn our new ERP system. We are live now on the new ERP system so the training rooms are being dismantled and my points are dropping like a rock.
I was recently told by my manager to submit a proposal on what WCG is, what it would cost, how to impalement it and so on. So I will be asking these guys to help me do this. And if anyone out there has an idea on how to do this, let me know.
But if we do end up getting the whole company on the Grid, then all these PCs here will be under a different team with the name of the company.
Of course my home PCs will be in a different team and someday maybe this team. confused

Re: Minnesota Crunchers

brink:
I knew you and Gollumer worked in the same place, but had had only an inkling that the others may too. Hopefully, since you already had the experience of having a number of computers crunching, you will be able to demonstrate that the crunching does not affect normal processing. If your manager is an IT wonk he should be easy to convince, but if he is a corporate bottom line type he may not fully comprehend. The only cost should be the juice used to keep the systems running, and if they were going to be running anyway, the cost will be a wash. This is assuming you and your buddies in the IS department will be donating your expertise to keep the systems up to date and troubleshooting the problems as they crop up. One additional thought comes to mind and that is the use of a pilot project and if that goes well, gradually expanding from that point. If you use the company name it could be free publicity and generate alot of corporate goodwill. Maybe pitch it as a philanthropic effort for the company. Best of luck to you.

Cheers

Sgt.Joe
