Since I fixed my computer last Friday (power supply stopped working), I have only been getting Muscular Dystrophy work units, even though I have "Participate in all projects" checked, and all four of the projects have check marks in 'em.
Why is that, or is there only work available for M_D? Using the Windows Agent, not BOINC. |

Since you are running HCMD, you must be using the UD version.
----------------------------------------(1) Workunits will be assigned randomly from all projects checked. You shouldn't get more than a few of the same project if more than one is checked. There can sometimes be a little bit of priority manipulation, but in general all active projects are available. (2) The current phase of HCMD is wrapping up. The last set of workunits is going out now. You should get something else soon or next time. General answer for message readers: (3) I assume that you have found the UD project choices down in the device manager. The first ones you see in My Grid/My Projects are for BOINC. One way to tell is that the BOINC list has a checkbox at the bottom to accept other work if your current project runs out. ------------------------------------- (UD version) My Grid Device Manager Device Profiles Available Projects Participate in All Projects FightAIDS@Home Genome Comparison Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy (Available on United Devices only) Human Proteome Folding 2 Please note: Some projects may occasionally have periods where no work is available. If you choose to receive work for only one project, the project may, at times, not have work units available for download. For this reason, we recommend that you select more than one project. --------------------------------------- (BOINC version) My Grid My projects Available Projects Participate in All Projects FightAIDS@Home Genome Comparison Help Cure Muscular Dystrophy (Available on United Devices only) Human Proteome Folding 2 Please note: Some projects may occasionally have periods where no work is available. If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents). My emphasis in red.

Yes, I am using the UD version. The last 6 WUs I received were all HCMD.
Here is what I see -- I have all the items in blue checked. Maybe HCMD is getting priority. Thanks -- My Projects Here you can select which projects you'd like your computer to work on. This will set the preference for all of the computers that you currently have. If you are running the United Devices agent you may change the settings on a device by device basis by going to the Device Manager and customizing your device profiles. Each project has unique minimum requirements. If your computer does not meet the minimum requirements for a project, you will not receive work from that project. Changes will not take effect until the next time that your grid agent communicates with the servers (when the current Work Unit is finished processing) |

Hi littlepeaks,
The push is on to finish the last batch of work units for HCMD Phase 1. They need those results to start the testing for the new program that we will use for Phase 2. Originally we thought that Phase 2 would begin around September, but the early results from Phase 1 showed that Phase 2 would require much more programming, so now we are thinking end of 2007 / beginning of 2008. You might get an occasional other project, but for the next several weeks expect mostly HCMD. Lawrence |

Again, you are quoting the project list on the BOINC page, not the project list on the UD device manager page that you are running. This little sentence comes from the red one I mentioned above AND from your own message. The UD project list could be different. At the moment it is identical, but BOINC does not run HCMD. The checkmarked boxes could be different. They can change unexpectedly when new projects come on stream.
----------------------------------------If there is no work available for my computer for the projects I have selected above, please send me work from another project (this option only applies to BOINC agents). Another message indicates that you will be getting mostly HCMD over the short term, but I still wonder about the project list. It won't be a problem until HCMD runs out of work. This shows me that the BOINC project list and UD project list are still confusing the members. The top of the my projects page (for BOINC projects) has this little sentence and a link to the UD device manager. If you are running the United Devices agent you may change the settings on a device by device basis by going to the Device Manager and customizing your device profiles. I told the administrators that it is not being noticed. Here's the actual link to the UD project page on the BOINC project page. https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do What else? Members are probably clicking on "my projects" at the left side of the screen, WHICH NATURALLY RETURNS TO THE BOINC PROJECT PAGE, even after they have gone to the link mentioned in the BOINC project page. Do you see what I'm getting at? He's telling us the numbers on his BOINC die, not the numbers on his UD die, which he is actually rolling without seeing. They need to go to the UD profile manager. AND the BOINC projects can set the UD projects. Maybe I'll just stay out of it. Things are getting too confusing for ME. I wanted to make sure that there were no custom settings in the UD projects.

littlepeaks,
As lawrencehardin said, we're almost done with Phase 1 of HCMD, and since the last workunits are making their way out now, it is more likely that you'll get one of those until they're all gone. Keep in mind also, that the work units are sent out randomly, so while it isn't likely, it is possible that you could have gotten 6 in a row, just as it's possible to roll a die and get the same number 6 times in a row. |
