Update from Uplinger in Known Issues: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=13708 and below:
----------------------------------------Re: A clutch of UD issues, today.... Ok, the UD servers are going to be playing at 100% for quite some time to play catch up. I am keeping a close eye on it to make sure that the workunit cache doesn't get out of whack again. Also, I'm going to be setting all the projects to even, this will also reduce the strain on the cache as I believe this will help quicken the catch up time. I will be making a post later after I make sure my changes are properly working. As of right now the changes that I made are pushing out 3 times the bandwidth then previous settings. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and I am sorry for the disruption. -Uplinger [May 31, 2007 5:36:23 PM]

Update from Uplinger in Known Issues: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=13708 It appears that the UD servers are operating in normal ranges now. All UD agents should be able to get work. Thank you again for your patience. -Uplinger Hi guys, I am still seeing issues with downloading new work units to UD. It ACTS like its downloading, giving me a normal "Receiving xxxxx of yyyyyy bytes from the server..." messages and as soon as it "finishes" the download it flashes for about a nanosecond the work unit info (e.g. GENOME_COMPARISON) while the status message reads at that same nanosecond "No Task is executing...". Then it goes back to the blank task/"Agent paused, see www.wcgrid.org/cause.html". I'm gonna assume that maybe the servers are still recovering from their nervous breakdown and that eventually I'll get a unit downloaded for real; I just wanted to bring this to your attention in case there is still some obscure issue needing to be chased down... |

My UD profiles are set to only received HCMD, so cant speak for all but just 2 hours ago 1 client returned a unit and got a fresh one without a hitch. Try exiting client and restart.... maybe some pollutant slipped into the pathways. Else let it sit a while.... uplinger is surely monitoring this thread.

I did try restarting the client, and that didn't help... so while you were apparently posting your above response suggesting that same attack, I did the Microsoft Solution -- a complete reboot of my POS laptop -- and that cleared whatever was gumming up the works. I'm back up and crunching again ![]() (btw, I have any/all projects selected... I ain't being particularly picky on what evil to stomp down at the moment) |

GavisconQueen,
I am monitoring this thread. Your agent should not have done what you were mentioning unless there was a failed download. What sizes were you noticing when the download was occurring? Was it greater than 10,000? Also, I'm glad you are back up and running...did you get another Genome Comparison work unit? -Uplinger |

Yes, the sizes it was claiming to be downloading were large numbers -- sorry, after I rebooted I lost the screenshots in my memory buffer that I took trying to catch what it was saying during the "nanosecond" windows, so I can't give you exact examples... but they were more in the 100,000+ sizes. Each time it tried to redownload a unit, the sizes were different values, but all BIG numbers. After I rebooted, I got a FightAIDS@Home unit. If I see a repeat of the same flaky behavior later after this unit gets crunched, I'll of course let you know... usually UD is very stable (unlike myself ![]() A big thanks to you for all your hard work keeping the servers up and happy! ![]() |

GavisconQueen,
It sounds like you were trying to download the executable to run Genome Comparison. I'm happy that the reboot worked but please watch to make sure you can run a Genome Comparison work unit properly in the future. -Uplinger |

UPDATE: I just wanted to let you know that confirmed that I am able to successfully download Genome project work units, as well as all the other projects (I sequentially selected/deselected each one individually on the project list over the last 12 hours to watch each project type successfully download-crunch-upload). Whatever the heck got gummed up on my silly system following the May 31st server issue was definitely cleared by the reboot. Thanks again all for your support! ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 2, 2007 7:16:03 PM] |
