Re: Stats...

Not too bad. Managed over 2k for 2 days in a row, which isn't bad for 1 1/2 machines crunching part time [due to temperature concerns]. When it gets over 80F in the house, I shut them down before they shut themselves down.

the 1/2 is an elderly Dell [coming up on 6, I've lost track] that's making ominous sounds. Think the fans, if not the hard drive that replaced the original hard drive, are considering retiring permanently beat up

Re: Stats...

...just brought an old 3.2 gig P4 with 1 gig ram and 500 gig HDD online....[[hate to waste that Hard Drive ....but it's a long story]] .....waiting for WCG to finish updating so I can DownLoad "Boinc" and see if the old girl can cope!!!!....Crunching is all this old girl will do ......{I'm on it now just running it through it's paces} cool

[edit for GP]...you know they run comfortably at around 120 degrees F...as long as you have air flow around them ...i.e. into the case they'll be comfortable!!...(of course the utility company will probably offer you stock options!!)
...I installed case exhaust fans in my Dually and my AMD 64,plugged them into the "Case Fan " power tap on the MoBo.... and they have yet to turn on!!!...that's crunching 100% 24/7 and I keep my thermostat set at HEAT 74degrees this time of year!!!!

Re: Sport's 3.2Ghz P4

Just an old 3.2Ghz PIV with 1g of ram 500g HD....
LoL 3.2 is faster than my Primary machine @ 3.0Ghz My Machines
laughing tongue laughing 500gb HD on a cruncher, But i understand when its the last drive you have around that isn’t dead. She should do fine silly
1gb of ram biggrin Within my limited experience, (Never got a AC@H) all the other projects don’t need anywhere near that. You’ll be able todo other things on the machine besides crunch away biggrin

GP:
If its a fan that is making a weird noise (and not the hard drive.) Then I would recommend cleaning it out with a vacuum and a can of compressed air. While the machine is off. If that doesn’t do it. If you’re brave, you could remove the fans from your systems. Sometimes the dust is caked on the fans so thick, that cleaning the fan blades with a barely damp paper towel will increase their rpm. And also clean out the air duct and vents that are connected to the fan while it is removed.

Already done the vac and canned air. Had the side off a month ago and cleaned it out - still grinding along. Guess 6ish years of crunching will do that... skull

Thanks for thinking 'bout me tho' kiss

Happy to hear your lappie is feeling better. cool
As to the issue of the reinstall do you have any drive imageing software? you could use to make a copy of your install off of the bad disk. Then back on to the healthy one. Thats alot quicker than reinstalling.
