Re: Workunit runtime for Say No to Schistosoma has been increased by 40%

In the past week of Crunching SN2S WUs, I've had them run anywhere from 8.5 to nearly 14 hours on my quardcore laptop. It seems this project adds some balancing issues given the wide variety of crunching results. Some projects are pretty consistant from WU to WU, but it looks like SN2S is not one of them. I can see how doing Performance work in this environment can be a real challenge at times given all the input variables the tech team has to deal with.

That sounds to me like a 'heavy' WU.

Sep.21, one day average runtime: 6.30 hours
Sep.21, seven day sliding average runtime: 6:36 hours

Crunch On.

Re: Workunit runtime for Say No to Schistosoma has been increased by 40%

SNS2 :
Sep.21, one day average runtime: 6.30 hours
Sep.21, seven day sliding average runtime: 6:36 hours

FAAH :
Sept 21, 1 day average 6.85 hours
Sept 21, 7 day average 6.86 hours
Thanks for those info, Rob. Say, how about doing the same for all projects whose WUs had their runtime increased as of late? The info there would serve as guidance-info for crunchers in planning his/her crunch activities.

While you're at it, why not include the rest of the active projects just the same for the sake of completeness... and while you're at that, in turn, how about a WU-Status webpage for an even more complete picture of the WCG crunching-scene? Ooops, have I hinted at the need for a WCG serverStatus webpage yet again?... wink

How about you mosey over to the Dashboard where all the forum frequenters go, which has had these numbers printed for years... no need to ask anyone!

edit: as for you status webpage... take a pick from this selection

SekeRob, I just had a SN2S WU that completed valid where my crunch time was 11.10 Hrs on my laptop, but my wingman ran over 42 Hrs over two days to complete the same WU....how's that for 'heavy' WUs....

and if you don't mind, could you rub my feet for a while, then dust the house and fill my car with gas when you bring the groceries home too.

All the science apps that run on the non-deterministic search principle have outliers and if they hit on a slower device you get those numbers. The dashboard also prints the max and minimum average that has occured in the last 6 months, so SN2S has had averages ranging from 1.97 hours to 7.92 hours. My Linux quad is getting through them in 3:50 to 7:35 hours [WCGDAWS history sorted on run time]. Vina is very difficult to cut, so the techs do at least two things:

1) Filter out certain "suspect" tasks [not 100% waterproof]
2) Cut the number of jobs in a task so that a certain average is achieved.

Then it is the luck of the draw. The future, the long away future has as vision that jobs are cut to device capability. "We had a dream...;>)" and that it will be for years to come, so is the nature of the crunching beast. (A few experts surely will arrive soon to opine how WCG *should* do it, just like project X/Y/Z)

Whl., wholewheat with dairy butter or vegetable margarine, filtered with milk or Italian curto style coffee with a glass of mineral water on the side? Any other particulars... we do go out a long way for our best customers ;O)

Re: Workunit runtime for Say No to Schistosoma has been increased by 40%

SekeRob, I understand and appreciate the efforts to slice and dice SN2S WUs to get them through cruncher systems with minimum problems. Now last week I may just had a bad week with larger WUs than usual. Over that period I had one group of 10 WUs that needed wingmen to complete validation where 50% of those wingmen went 'No Reply' after 10 days. Now a second more reliable wingmen got put on the second round of crunching and all of those WUs got finally validated over this weekend, but that does go to my concerns that these bigger WUs could over time create more 'No Reply' situations for some smaller crunchers who just can't get them done within the 10 day time limits. Hopefully my last week was just an outlier and not a begining of a trend towards 'No Reply' wingmen popping up for me.
