If you do buy a dp MB and install just 1 cpu beware the fact that upgrading requires the same cpu to be fitted as a pair and until the MB is fully populated some features such as pcie slots will not be available 2nd proc will only be cheaper...and later-on, he can upgrade to fastest dual-proc system! so dual-CPU MB is always my choice! But I have made several dual-systems for my grid... ;) |

hmmmm 4 threads per core....
----------------------------------------double data precision... even if it was 60 cores, that's 240 cores running. But will it work with WCG??? ![]() |

There's no practical limit on the number of cores -per client-. If not recognized, use the config to increase the number of ncpus. If there were a restriction, some run multiple clients in VM. There's even a setting to allow multiple clients. It's the theoretical/practical way to divide a single machine for WCG and each client connected to a different profile which has each a different science of WCG selected. A heavy way to get hard 50:50 or 33:33:33 or whatever.
----------------------------------------Edit: Of course for statistics, multiple clients on one host is each a device registration [not a showstopper I'd imagine ;o] [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 27, 2015 3:20:26 PM] |

Am I right in thinking that this is basically a great (but expensive) way of getting tons and tons of cores into one box.
Hells, this would be huge if it worked! If so, I would be tempted to get this. http://www.sabrepc.com/intel-sc3120a-xeon-phi...r-coprocessor-active.html |

In a year or 2, we'll come to 1kW computers...who will crunch then? ![]() |

I'm not sure how well it would work for this project as look like graphic cards & currently there are no projects that support such hardware. Great idea all the same ![]() |

I received my computer back from the shop after 5 days. I was told they changed the Asus Rampage V extreme motherboard for a new one and it ran flawlessly for them for 2 days 24 7 with a combination of burn in one and continual boot looping to make sure it wasn't going to give error 61 on start up again. I have not had any issues at this stage.

Great idea all the same I think one article said they were like 72 atom cores able to hyperthread to 4 per core. I think atoms will work... Hope so And Speedy, congrats on getting the good machine working again! ![]() |
