Man, I nearly picked up a new Macbook Pro today... Quite nice laptops but I think my current laptop can still hold out for a little longer. I was darn close though, and it would have made for some nice crunchin'!
38 years... not bad for our little team! |

I was darn close though, and it would have made for some nice crunchin'! 38 years... not bad for our little team! Chowbow, I'm thinking about getting a *very* nice Intel Duo Core as soon as I can close some deals. And yes, in just a few hours we will have 38 years of Total Run Time. And yesterday's stats were really good. |

So I joined the darkside and picked up a Core2Duo Macbook Pro tonight. Man, this thing crunches fast but runs hot! Unfortunately, there isn't a good application in OSX which basically does what Notebook Hardware Control does for Windows. Hopefully something will come out soon. The voltage on this CPU needs to be taken down a lot!

Chowbow, what can you do about that voltage? Other than it running hot, it sounds great.

JC,
In Windows, there's an awesome utility called "Notebook Hardware Control" which allows you to lower the voltage supplied to the CPU. When you do that, it will reduce the heat that the CPU dissipates. If you lower it TOO much, the system will become unstable and crash though. Nevertheless, with every laptop I've had, I can lower the voltage considerably below Intel's stock settings while remaining completely stable. Unfortunately, there is no real equivalent program in OSX that can do the same thing. There's a program called Coolbook which attempts to do the same thing, but it is nowhere near as powerful and well programmed as NHC for Windows. Hopefully somebody can come up with a kick booty utility which works in OSX. |
