Re: Courine's Legs have have run off?

my machine is a slot 1, 100FSB box, so there is a wide range of possible processors available. Becca's p2-400 may be a 66FSB, which isn't worth upgrading, but if it is a 100 or 133 FSB....

I have a slot 1 adapter with a reg CPU on it, I was thinking it was a P3-900. But if hers is a P2, I doubt the BIOS would handle it.
The adapter card allowed a regular 'flip chip' to be put on a slot 1 board.
I don't remember why, but that machine quit booting & I retired it. It was on the third MB and I didn't think it was worth another. But being a pack-rat, I pulled the card with the CPU on it & put it on the shelf.

Thanks Mike, you run a fine ship. If it wasnt for the addition of and extra pair of legs, things would have been a lot different.

3 cheers for Team ZIRCONIA!

To add to the celebration, Team passes 25 CPU Year Mark!

I've been there!
I have a Celeron 3.2Ghz machine on a socket 775 board.
My research tells me that I can get a compatible Pentium D 820 (dual core not core duo) for under $100. I'm thinking it may be a good investment. Anyone have experience with that CPU?

Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

i believe that may ba what is in a couple of the Comps at work. Pentium D, 3.2ghz. think that's right, they are in some Dell optiplex units. Had BOINC on one for a couple of weeks. the work units and benchmarks was showing it just under twice the machine my Sempron 3400+ is. Looked good to me, but i haven't been keeping up with the newest tech for awhile now. ^^
