Re: Mini Cruncher

This seems to be "or what", one of my two PCs runs task for just 22 minutes (human proteome folding). Maybe you have subscribed for project that had run out of workunits?

Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

im working on a way to get a mobo mfg to drop power by removing parts that crunchers dont need. It would be very barebones. the disk would be small and total unit would fit into a drive bay.

A total target price for a duo would be about 199.

But the real key is to improve cost of ownership. For server farms, this simple machine would pay for itself within a year of 24/7 service.

this is way more than $200, but it is way cool! biggrin

I love that tiny little footprint! love struck The 84 Watt power consumption is pretty light, too.

Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

Hmmm, a top tier team on page 2?
How'd that happen? LOL
At least my 2 core CPU is working.
It has really made a difference in the responsiveness of this machine, compared to the original Celeron.
I guess a quad core is going to be my next project.

:::Waiting on a 'real' sale::: LOL

biggrin Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

Ive been rebuilding my room to handle the new machines coming in. These machines will help me find the right balance point where cpu power vs ac power merge.

The goal is to drop power use by upgrading the operation. The current low end machines are slow mostly, thus a low kwh/result ratio. So, with mike of ZIRCONIA's help and some money left to me by my mom, I am running this test of power saving over upgrade costs. Not just as a memorial, but as a way for us all to understand better this concept. This should also make the greenies happy while not compomizing grid tera FLOPsec's.

There is much to this in the end, but this concept and the total grid power use could put to rest any real debate with the green concept of damage to the environment and promote getting more bang per electric bill buck.

So please forgive me for not keeping up on the stats. The Mooooo down in the chat room is over in just over a week. Things will return to normal and then some, then.

I will have the month 4 stats and congrats as usual.

Few Milestones

biggrin laughing CONGRADULATIONS laughing biggrin

Well I know I am going to miss a few people but thougth I would shoot this off.

Yesterday a few people hit milestones along the path . . . .

Roger (The Dodger) passed 7.5 Million points
Pepe88 passed 3/4 of a Million
Courine (Fearless leader) passed 1/2 Million
Sentinel Vickers passed 75 Thousand

Whether you hit a milestone or not, and whether you do 50 thousand, or 50 points a day, Congradulations everyone to doing what you can to make the world a place we will all live a little longer in.

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Re: First Challenge Completed, 25 CPU Year Mark and where did my legs go?

There is a post in member news about BOINC upgrading. Anyone have nore on this?

I think your talking about the forthcoming new FAAH application on Boinc - its to let us know that the old FAAH work units are being given tighter completion deadlines as it nears closure to ensure a smooth changeover, and to reminding us to tick the 'send work from other projects etc box...' so you don't stop crunching during the period between the changeover when no FAAH work is available. nerd

there is a new version thats been overhauled for issues under Win Vista:

I just bid on a dual XEON rig, we'll see if the bid holds! LOL
That might speed up production just a little...
