The flag problem is happening to Ted as well
![]() I'm beta testing the BBC iPlayer. at the moment you only get what they want you to see, but there's a lot of stuff to watch, and there's a good mix. Just one thing, YOU MUST TURN BOINC OFF COMPLETELY to download stuff, otherwise a 30 minute program takes about 3 days ![]() |

They've always showed. ![]() As far as the beta version (or any version, for that matter) of BBC's iPlayer...it's only available for those of you in the UK...imagine that. Unfortunately the BBC site doesn't state that little gem until after one goes through the all hoops of registering, downloading the library, insisting on IE as the web browser, etc. Such a disappointment. I was really looking forward to seeing Cappy in his khakis. ![]() |

Such a disappointment. I was really looking forward to seeing Cappy in his khakis. ![]() Good morning all ![]() .................................................................................................... ..... 'Cappy in his Khaki's' now that is a sight, I was on leave one weekend when he requested I bull up his boots as he had a 'passing out parade' coming up!. he didn't mention the fact that the boots where the same ones he had just used over an assualt course!, 2hrs of spit and polish later you could see your face in them, Cap'n you still owe me for a tin of Cherry Blossom, how did that parade go ? you never got around to telling me as I flew back to my own posting that week, seem to remember next time I heard from you, you where covered in dust with the crack of Arab pyrotechnics whining past your head! can't blame the spit and polish for that! but you obviously must have passed your parade inspection?. ![]() Enjoy your weekend.......... When bulling boots, Cherry Blossom was far too 'greasy' and left smears, Kiwi was far better.....in the 1950's anyway....

Good morning everyone
![]() Ah, the 50s, those were the days, we had an Army, RAF, and a Navy. In those days, bad boys were sent to join up or go to prison, National service ensured that all youngsters got the idea that it was in their interest to be part of a team, Death was the penalty for murder, Cider was a tanner a pint, beer 10d, fags a shilling, wages were £3 a week for a young sailor, and everywhere you looked you saw servicemen and women, no "Civies" allowed in those days. The police never had guns, didnt need them, a clip round the ear sufficed, and the police came on bikes! The elderly were respected, schools were strict, and we learned well. If we dodged school, the "School Board Man" turned up at home, and we were punished, and we walked to school, no one had heard of 4x4s! Meals were always taken at the table, with the rest of the family. and Fathers word was Law! By todays standards it sounds a hard time, but we were free, you could swim in the locks, run over the fields, climb trees, play in the parks, and go mushrooming on a Sunday morning, "Elf an Safety" haddn,t been invented! Sadly most youngsters today will never understand what I am talking about, too busy playing their games machines and I-Pods! A lot has happened since the 50s..but is the world a better place? ![]() |

And as for "OLD" Sage, he wasn't even 10 years old when I Joined up! (Mind you he has aged a lot since! ![]() Now there's a dex for you! Hmm.... that would make you fifteen at the time ....I know you skipped school a lot!, but come on you had to be 18 them days, 'boy scouts' don't count........ seriously tho' I agree the fifties where halcyon days, as for the seasons , spring, summer, autumn & winter they were all as they should be!, and the local bobby, tho stern, was very fair he would prefer to let mum & dad deal with you, after clipping your ear that is. The good old days We all left school a long time ago; We worked for long hours, wages were low; No TV, just a wireless' no bath, times were hard, Just a cold water tap, and a walk in the yard; No holidays abroad, no carpets on the floor, We had coal on the fire, no locks on the door; Children arrived, no pill in those days, And they were brought up without state aid; They were safe going out to play in the park, And old folk could go for a walk in the dark, No valium, no drugs, no LSD, We cured our ills with a good cup of tea, No vandals, no muggings, there was nothing to rob, We felt we were rich with a couple of bob, People were happier in those far of days, Kinder and caring in so many ways; Milkmen and paper-boys would whistle and sing, A night at the pictures was our one mad fling, We all got our share of struggle and strife, We all had to face it, thats the pattern of life; I dont think of the bad times, troubles and tears, I remember the blessings, our home and our love, And that we shared life together, I thank god above. Ps with a family of five strapping boys mum & dad had to struggle but there was always fun, sharing the tin bath by a coal fire on a cold winters day then by that same fire, spreading lashings of home made blackberry jam on toast from a toasting fork made at school.
making paper chains for christmas decorations, sitting listening to the radio not daring to speak, especially if the 'big fight' or football was on. so many memories......... |
