Your memory is bad, I left school in1954, and joined up as a Boy Seaman, in January of 1955, Which if my maths still work, made you NINE!
Eighteen was the age for National Service. I was a regular.
They dont have boy seamen anymore which is another shame.

the depth of shine the "bull" of the boots I never was part of but do remember the "Button rack" that slid behind brass buttons so they could be Bulled This from my many aunties and uncles that came to visit .........

also remember being taken to the railway station to see them off.
trains filled with troops often Yanks and was in recipt of Chocs from them eager to impress Auntie and intice her into thier compartment

Aaaarh, but do you remember what the 'object' was called that used to contain all this bulling and mending kit.....t'was the 'husif' but what did that stand for?
