Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Evening all

I shall also be thinking of you Den so good luck from me too.

And I see you have sneaked past me John as I suspected you would. I don't think there's any way I can catch you now - must be that sea air.

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Hello one and all :) I am finally back.... All the Best Den for the Horse Piddle, watch the food though I hear its pretty bad the world over :)
Not much news from this side of the planet apart from Earthquakes, wild weather. I don't mind the earth moving for me... just not quite in that way biggrin I have been spending my spare time tinkering with Bebo. If ever you want to fritter your time away I would recommend it.
Hows things these days Ted? any gossip? Things I have missed out on?
Guitarman could you please email me your home address as I found something I would like to send you.
Well all, time to go chase some rabbits around the house with the vacuum cleaner, take care all and I will try to be around a bit more often wink

Regards Kate

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

cowboy good morning all.......Best of luck Den hope all goes well.

Poppy duty to day, a small gesture to recognise those lives that have been lost or effected by conflicts around the world.
For over 80yrs we have watched with pride our veterans of two World wars and other conflicts march with dignity past the Cenotaph in London.
In towns and cities up and down the country we gather to remember the men and women of the Armed Forces who have died for their country.

1914-1918 World War 1
1939-1945 World War 11
1945-1949 India,Palestine,Malaya
1950-1959 Korea, Canal Zone, Kenya, Cyprus, Aden/Radfan, Malaya, Suez
1960-1969 Borneo, Northern Ireland, Oman/Dhofar, Aden/Radfan
1970-1979 Northern Ireland, Oman/Dhofar
1980-1989 Falklnds, Northern Ireland
1990-1999 Gulf War, Northen Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo
2000-present Sierra Leone, Afghanistan, Iraq

*********************************

For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.

Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.

But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;

larence binyon

lived in Lancaster on the high street
there is a plaque not the Normal Blue one
but just over the door unless you know its there ......

we all know and repeat the relavent verse but here is the whole thing
