Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Whose cat is this one confused

wake up , thanks is not mines biggrin

Must be the one we had! ...............called him 'cooking fat' devilish

that's what Dr. Spooner calls him

Thanks for the full version Den, interesting tale about the plaque.

Spent 5hrs at Franklins Gardens (home of the 'Saints') nearly sold out of Poppies, the generosity of 'Joe public' (young and old,) and the warm reception towards this 'Old Sage' was wonderful; This was at a Rugby match, (a hooligans game played by Gentlemen,) I wonder if it had been football if the reception would have been the same? thinking
whereas soccer is a gentleman's game, watched by hooligans

Take care all .......... enjoy your evening

cowboy 'Old Sage'

The old sage certainly knows his onions!

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Morning all wink
Welcome back Kate, good to to see you back, (What's bebo?)
and where is cassie these days??

"BeBo " something you do with Kiddies peeping round the door or from behind fingers ????
or have I got it wrong agin ????

Maybe Haapi is playing Be Bo with Cassie ?????

Evening one and all :) Bebo is a website that you can join and its a webpage that you can post info about yourself, interests and friend etc. Kind of like a community. Hubby and daughters all have their own Bebo too ... Cassandra is now a working gal, she works for a Car Rental company and commutes between the air port and town to work. She is also of no fixed abode angry which doesn't make me very happy. She and Matt spend Sunday to Tuesday with us and then Wednesday to Saturday at Matts Mums. He doesn't have full time work so they cannot afford to go flatting. Hopefully they will get themselves sorted eventually. I have passed on your kind wishes to her smile Thanks for your Addy GM I will try to get this posted away next week all going well.
Bebo Website
Regards Kate

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Evening all

I'm all for the poppy day but I don't very much care for everything starting, like Christmas, earlier and earlier and to see the obligatory wearing of poppies on TV a couple of weeks before seems to lessen the importance rather than enhance it but perhaps that's just me.
....................................................................................................
.....

I understand where you are coming from Blanco, but I see people wearing ribbons for -Breast Cancer awareness, AIDS awareness, Women in need of shelter, Save the Children Fund, PDSA, World Wild Life Fund, etc, etc all year around!;

The Royal British Legion Poppy is not just for Remeberance Day, the funds raised are used 24/7/52, providing help and counseling to service men/women and their dependents some of whom with out the intervention of the Legion would live out their lives in abject misery. This welfare is carried out by an army of unpaid heroes for and on behalf of the Legion, but with out the contributions good people like yourself give at this special time of year thier task would be very hard.
The monies raised pay for the many needs of those effected by the conflicts, for e.g, stair lifts, mobile chairs, home visits, accommadation, nursing homes, Lawyers etc'.
Many of us contribute all year around.

Wear your POPPY with pride knowing that you have made a difference to the living whilst respecting the dead.

I thank you and everyone who have contributed.

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

Why the Poppy?
Poppy seed will lie in the ground for years if the soil is undisturbed. That churned up cemetery known as the Western Front provided the ideal medium for masses of poppies to blanket the graves. By the 1920s, Legion Branches were selling the paper flowers to: provide assistance to needy ex-servicemen and their families, to build housing for seniors, and support programs like meals-on-wheels, drop-in centres, etc. Buy and wear a poppy. It is simple, painless way to recognize contributions and sacrifices barely imaginable to us.

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

From my dads grave stone in Norway

To live on in the hearts of those
that loved you is not to die

Re: The Edwardians have arrived!

And I've just checked that my recorder is working so that I can watch properly once we've eaten. I'm seldom into the television until about nine and this way I don't have to compete with my wife and Strictly Come Dancing.
