Re: Computers tips

okey two options :), now to something different

Google’s Recipe View tool.

Google provides with a snapshot of the most popular searches in one week in late March, removing queries that seemed like spam. Cookies figured on the list in three different ways (cookies, chocolate chip cookie and chocolate chip cookies). Chicken, lasagna, meatloaf and banana bread recipes were also sought after (Why banana bread? Could there have been a surfeit of bananas browning on kitchen counters the world over?)
If you’re curious about how many users searched for “banana bread” over time, there is also a tool for that — Google insights for Search

Windows Vista and 7: Copy as Path

Everyone knows that right-clicking on a file or a folder usually brings up a menu with basic choices, like “Open” or “Copy”. For those that crave a little more out of their right-clicks, however, might I suggest holding the Shift key when you right click? In Windows Vista and 7 the usual menu that pops up will now include an option called “Copy as Path”. This actually copies the entire path of the file or folder to your clipboard, and allows you to paste it wherever you want.

Pin to taskbar

Pin to start Menu

Copy as path
Restore previous versions

This is useful for when you’ve located a file in Explorer and you want to upload it to a Web site. So, instead of taking the time to browse for the file on the site, you can just copy and paste its path directly.

Pin Thumbnails in Google Chrome

So, if you’re a Google Chrome user, then you’ve probably seen the nifty dashboard screen at one time or another. Among other options, it’s a place that shows you your most visited sites in thumbnails form for quick an easy access

Most visited for example, google, facebook ..etc

That being said, those thumbnails tend to shift around a bit as your browsing habits change. If you want to keep one up there permanently, though, it’s pretty easy. Just hold your mouse pointer over the thumbnail you want to keep and click the little pin icon.

This will “pin” the thumbnail so it doesn’t go anywhere!

Re: Computers tips

I don’t know about you, but when I’m doing research on the Internet the last thing I want to do is have to scan en entire page of nonsense when I can just hit a shortcut key and search for a keyword.
Yes , yes – we all know the drill: Hit Ctrl-F and type in your query…
But did you know Firefox 4 offers an even quicker way to search for something on a page? Seriously! Just hit, the / key on your keyboard (located just to the left of the Shift key) and start typing!

You’ll find that word in no time!

Re: Computers tips

Belarc Advisor It creates a report listing all your PCs hardware and software, including the version, your software licenses, your system's security status, virus protection, and even missing Windows Updates. Print the report and store it somewhere safe so if your PC is ever stolen, melted, crashes or you replace it, you'll know everything that was on it.

Been 18 months since last mentioned on these forums, but it may be of interest that Belarc now also does a security audit on Windows 7 [don't know but presume Vista too]. Based on their scale of 1-10, got some work to do :(

PS: Be careful which download button you hit. Placement is designed to first re-direct to other commercial products.

If you use Facebook to invite your friends to a party, be sure that your settings don't invite the whole world. Thessa's 16th birthday party spiraled out of control when 1,500 people showed up, followed by 100 police!

Re: Computers tips

Are you familiar with the Programs and Features window in Windows Vista and 7? It’s the place where you can uninstall programs and get information on stuff like the publisher, when the program was installed, its size and more.

…much more, if you use this tip.

So click Start and in the Search Box type “Programs and Features”. Now either click on the icon the appears in your list or just hit Enter. The Programs and Features window will open up.

From here, look along the top of the list where Name, Publisher, Installed on, etc are.

Now right-click and select More…

Look at all those options, Just put a check next to anything you’d like to know about your installed programs like source, location, registered owner and more! Select what you want and hit OK.

Install Ninite, select your favorite programs from a sizable list with a quick click, and Ninite will then install all those apps at once, without you doing anything more. It comes with impressive references, too:
