Don't reach for the mouse to type a new address in your browser, press Alt+D. The current address will be highlighted. And then don't delete it; when you start typing, it's replaced automatically. Just type the site name you want

Re: Computers tips

You can skip the inane 15-second voice-mail instructions when leaving a message ("To page this person, press 5") — if you know your friend’s cellphone carrier. If it’s Verizon, press * to cut directly to the beep. For AT&T or Sprint, press 1. For T-Mobile, press #. And your friends will thank you if you change your message to "Press * [or # or ??] at any time to skip this message."

Another shortcut keystroke Ctrl-L (Cmd-L on Mac) to jump to the address bar of your browser. And Internet Explorer users can use F4.

Re: Computers tips

File this one in the “Wow, I didn’t know I could do that!” category, but did you know that you can re-name multiple files at once?

It’s possible! So next time you have a bunch of files, folders, or pictures with names like DSC_5678 and want to rename them in a more uniform way, do this:

Highlight all the files/folder in question…

Right-click, choose Rename and call it something that best describes them. For example, I had a bunch of pictures of a guitar, so I just renamed it “Guitar”.

Restore Quick Launch in Windows 7

One thing I noticed that was missing from Windows 7 was the Quick Launch bar; that little area on the task bar where you could store shortcuts for easy access. Right-Click your task bar and select Toolbars>New toolbar… Copy and paste this text into the box next to “Folder:” at the bottom.

%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick LaunchNow press the “Select Folder” button.

After that, the area next to your clock It says “Quick Launch”, but it sure doesn’t look like what we’re used to, does it? To fix it, Right-click it and remove the check mark next to “Lock the taskbarNow Right-click the Quick Launch again and remove the checks next to “Show Textand “Show Title” Now all you have to do is drag that dotted line out a bit to expose the icons and Right-click one more time to put a check back next to Lock the Taskbar To remove the Quick Launch you just created Right-click on your Taskbar and under Toolbars uncheck Quick Launch.

That´s it

Re: Computers tips

Quick launch in Win 7

There is another way to do this that might be a little easier.
Right click on taskbar and and click in "lock taskbar" to remove the checkmark next to it.
Right click again, hover mouse over "toolbars" and select "new toolbar"
Name the new toolbar shortcuts and place it in your "My Documents" folder. ( It may do that automatically, it's been a long time since I did this)
Send any programs you want to your desktop via right clicking on the exe and selecting send to desktop which will create a desktop shortcut.
Then simply drag the newly created desktop shortcut to your new shortcuts folder.
There should now be a "shortcuts" with an small arrow in your taskbar next to your clock.
Click on the arrow and your shortcuts should appear.
You can then lock the taskbar again if so desired.
Done!

Need to email a 2GB file? Upload it to WeTransfer for free, send your friends the URL, and they can download it for two weeks. After that it gets deleted, with no copies kept. No registration required.

Re: Computers tips

Some ideas take months to germinate and develop before they explode. Here’s one that took just a matter of days.
In late May, inspiration struck an enterprising 21-year-old Canadian who still lives at home with his parents. The notion was a little whimsical and staggeringly simple.
“I was with my parents and my brothers sitting at our kitchen table, looking through an old photo album,” explained Taylor Jones, the young man who experienced the brain wave. “I noticed a picture that was taken at the actual kitchen table where we were looking at the photos. I held it up, and my brother was sitting in the exact same spot. I said, ‘Oh, man, I need to take a picture of this! This is cool!’ ”
Jones held up the old photograph of the kitchen table against the present reality of the kitchen table and snapped a picture. The effect was, in a word, awesome. He did the same thing with four or five other photos from the album, and he sent them to his friends to see whether they liked them.

They really, really did. So, in a flash, he bought a domain name

Dear Photograph.com

Navigate the site

take a picture of a picture from the past in the present.
