applause The BOINC Migration Meter

This thread an attempt to show where we are and what progress is made starting off with the measurement for Monday October 8, 2007 compared to Tuesday October 3, 2007

Total WCG points:................... 89,160,621 (100%) was. 83,304,583
less
Total BOINC Points ................. 63,769,174 (71.5%) was 57,281,119 (68,7%)
equals
Those left behind on UD agent.. 25,391,447 (28.5%) was 26,023,464 (31.2%)

Compared to last week's data, a shift of 2.7%

Who's not yet taken the plunge? Help release the techs and programmers time to do more new project testing and maintenance without duplicating effort!

Re: The BOINC Migration Meter

Thanks for that Sekerob. At least it is progress. We need to say more in the team pages about the migration.

I have several machines with the UD agent still, but I am trying to catch them close to a completed unit to switch.
I hate losing 12-16 hours of work per system by changing in the middle of a unit.
The ones I have switched are using the BOINC version from http://boinc.berkeley.edu and set to run as a service.
The version from WCG may be a little more simple to install, but doesn't give me the choices I want.
-----
With 60+ machines, I have to physically check each to see which version is installed. Too bad there isn't a way to do it automatically.
I like to install BOINC from the admin login and install it as a service.
That way it doesn't show in the system tray for users to say...what's that and shut it off....like they do to the AV and Antispyware software.
Then they wonder why they get infected...and the more you train them, the more they THINK they know...

Re: The BOINC Migration Meter

Car, have you tried using boincview? I use it with my home network to keep up with my crunchers, and to tell when one of the kids have left something running that is wasting cycles.
It sometimes forget what machines are defined, but I keep a backup of the ini file for quick restores. I suspect this problem is more an issue of the machine I am using than the program itself.

Re: The BOINC Migration Meter

A week's gone by and another record Monday (15th) with 207 CPU years showing the continuation of growth.
_________ Total WCG points: . __ BOINC Points __ . _UD Agent Residual_
Oct.15'07.. 90,537,064 (100%) . 64,186,913 (70.9%) . 26,350,151 (29.1%)
Oct.08'07.. 89,160,621 (100%) . 63,769,174 (71.5%) . 25,391,447 (28.5%)
Oct.03'07.. 83,304,583 (100%) . 57,281,119 (68,7%) . 26,023,464 (31.2%)

The Autumn 'Resume' button has fired up relatively more existing UD clients, but as before the absolute BOINC share continues to grow.... new machines/converters/new members.

Go sayeth it forth.... Migrate and Help WCG reduce the duplication of maintenance effort.

On Oct 15, some went back towards UD. What's that all about?

Re: The BOINC Migration Meter

Cant explain numbers, well i could, but I'd be writing an essay or 2. Tuesday's UD share was 26.4 percent.... Outstanding.

Last week was in points 25% over the holding May'07 CPU years week record, also supporting the observation that the upgrading from Wall-Clock driven crunching to CPU time crunching with duo's and quads continues.

Come x-mas snowstorms in Colorado, those on UD may have an idling of their client when lines go down (hope not), whilst BOINC happily churns away on buffered work units (without 3rd party tools and extra device installs), plus being able to participate in DDDT and the upcoming Help XXXXXXX Cancer project.... how about that sales-point smile

PS

Due (thanks) to SETI's trouble, WCG is at BOINCstats by far the biggest project on Tuesday, Oct.16.... that's how momentary statistics workpeace

Wish WCG would more actively use the RSS news feeds wink

Re: The BOINC Migration Meter

Week on Week record again yesterday with almost 208 CPU years. A share shift of 3.6% is quite a change from the slight flush dip last week
