I don't think I need compressed air to blow the dust from my computer's external filters back into my house, do I? No, carry the box outside and do it... I use a shop vac set to blow, it does wonders. I do put my finger on the various fans so they dont get to spinning madly, also take a small wooden dowel through the grill of the PSU to keep them still Maybe it's just me but after vaccuming everything to what I thought was clean, it was a big surprise the amount of stuff came out on the blow setting ![]() ![]() |

According my Hitchhiker guide to the Dustbunnies-Galaxy , vacuum and use of medium to fine brushes to get into the nooks and crannies (whilst powered off and mains unplugged). Compressed air is powerful enough to cause damage... expanding gases can frostbite, crack delicate connections, prints on boards and if held wrong, fluid can come out the nozzle. And, what's in that compressed air bottle anyhow, when it says on the outside "New Formula"?

To suck, or to blow? That is the question. I'm a vacuum cleaner sort of gal.
----------------------------------------More nerdy cooling stuff: Annoyed by spending $$$ on the wonderfully heavy duty Fractal Designs Define mATX case, (yum), stupid fans, stupider fan controllers and even more stupid green fluoro fan speed/temp displays - and still having the i7-2600K baking at 71C at 100%, I've just swapped out the CPU cooler for a: Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO (sic). * Temps are now 61C/at Ambient 24C at WCG 100%. O joy! (* Other brands of cooler may meet your needs) [Edit 3 times, last edit by Hardnews at May 9, 2012 10:37:44 AM] |

EDIT: Succeeded, manual was faulty. Sadly, still way too hot.
----------------------------------------Hi there, Sorry for that little slightly off-topic question. I need to remove the dust bunnies from my notebook's cooling unit - i've tried several times, but i can't get that thing open. Unfortunately, i have to dismantle almost the whole system. Maybe someone skilled at disassembling notebooks can help me here. On page 65 from this manual ftp://ftp.packardbell.com/pub/itemnr/CS256K00/SG_PB_EasyNote_LX86.pdf upper picture, there's a scheme of lots of screws. Look at that red circle at the bottom, second from right (just below that grey plate in the HDD case): There is actually no screw, it's just a hole with nothing in it. It's the same thing with my notebook. However, at exactly this position, i can't get the machine open. The machine's upper side has also been opened (keyboard removed etc). Any suggestions what might that be? Maybe a constuction fauxpas? Or am i missing something? Thanks in advance. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 21, 2012 7:49:06 PM] |

Update on my system:
----------------------------------------Before I reported having temps on my O/C 2600k @ around 90C. I erroneously thought it was a bad sensor due to a liquid cooling system leak on this motherboard in the past. Well, I just bought a new cooler, a Coolermaster Hyper 212 and a tube of Arctic silver 5. Now temps are in the 70's @ 4.6 ghz, and around 30 at idle...very respectable. Temps may be too high for some, but it seems ice cold compared to 90! Very happy with this air cooling setup. Might add a second fan for a push/pull as well. BTW the previous cooling setup was a Gemini II, using the cooling paste supplied with that cooler. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by ryan222h at Jun 9, 2012 5:37:05 PM] |

There are a few of the crunchers using these CoolerMaster CPU chillers, my i7-2600K runs at a modest 3.8Ghz, but at 100%/ 62 C or so in 24C ambient. They do work very well.
