Edit: Old title was "The road to 100,000,000 points-a-day thread"
----------------------------------------I understand that we prefer Run Time measurements when talking to people outside the DC community (e.g. journalists) because it is more meaningful than points or returned results. But between us we know that the Run Time measurement is awfully heterogeneous and, for me, almost meaningless: the daily total includes wallclock times and CPU times, as well as time from some old P286 up to the most overclocked latest top range processors. As long as the techs are using the same formulas for computing points I think the Points measurement is the only valid one for measuring our activity inside WCG. While it has taken 2.5 months for only coming close to the current Run Time record, during that time the Points record of August 8 (87,120,867) has been beaten on - October 8 : 89,160,621 - October 15 : 90,537,064 - October 22 : 92,170,206 and finally yesterday October 29 with 95,653,606 i.e. 9.79 % more than on August 8. And, in my opinion, that gives a better view of what is really achieved regarding new members and UD to Boinc migration. So, our next target is 100,000,000 points-a-day. And the way things are progressing recently that should not take too long! ![]() Cheers. Jean,
----------------------------------------could be as early as this week passing this mark, with some extra motivation behind the new, seemingly very stable HCC project ![]() Another new record was doing 6,032 CPU years in 1 calendar month, over 300 more compared to last record of 5,711 dating back to May'07 and 50% more over the Oct'06 figure of just 4,000 CPU years. I've not compared the points, but given the weight of the new clovers and duo's it's probably nearer the double. ttyl

could be as early as this week passing this mark That could happen if the HCC project has already brought new players in the game. Otherwise that should not take longer than one more week. I am ready to jump on the title of this thread to give it a more general wording. ![]() I've not compared the points, but given the weight of the new clovers and duo's it's probably nearer the double. I have added two columns to my OpenOffice page of the Global Stats, one is a sliding 7-last-days total and the other one a sliding 30-last-days total. Both are breaking a new record almost every day, with an average 1 to 3 % increase from one week to the next, and an average 10 % increase over a 30-day period since the end of September. The current record for 30 days was established on Friday this week with 2,555,160,099 points. That is not twice more than in May as you were wondering, but it is still a respectable 31.97 % increase over Friday June 1st 30-day total of 1,936,154,611 points! |

Sorry, pas de problème. I have just added 2006 figures to my Calc page. Easy and fast with the Table2Clipboard Firefox add-on.
----------------------------------------![]() And then it appears that you were too conservative. Comparing Friday November 2, 2007 to Friday November 3, 2006 the progression on 30-day totals is almost 124 %! "Almost" because the exact figure is 123.99 %. And at this time the best daily was only 40,976,753. Looks like ![]() |

So in other words, based on the average capacity of the PC in Oct'06, we're not doing 75,000+ CPU days per day presently, but more than 165,000 CPU days equivalent.....wow.... growth beyond my most wildest *back of envelope * expectations.
----------------------------------------Looking forward as to what the migration meter is going to produce on Tuesday morning.... It's almost half a blue gene. ![]()

Thanks to the HCC Bug effect and more precisely to actions that the techs had to take for clearing the set of already distributed HCC WUs, all WCG's global daily records have been broken by much!
----------------------------------------Points: 115,967,542 (was 96,558,913) Run Time: 238:122:07:07:44 (was 213:012:11:09:39) Results: 348,888 (was 290,384) OK, this is a little artificial. So we can - either forget about them - or accept them as our new very challenging targets. Personally I tend to prefer the second option. ![]() ![]() ![]() Edit: By the way, I have modified the title of this thread for it to be more "general". Since September the progression rate on daily points was about 8 % per month, or more. If we keep this pace the "normal" daily points will reach this exceptional level in 2.5 months, i.e. end of January. Maybe earlier if Christmas brings many new multicore machines to fellow crunchers.
----------------------------------------![]() Regarding Returned Results, with more shorter DDDT WUs "replacing" the currently missing HCC WUs, yesterday's daily was the best "normal" total, i.e. 290,841 WUs. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by JmBoullier at Nov 19, 2007 11:52:48 AM] |
