Good Afternoon Base Campers!
So far I have heard nothing from the librarian. I never tried to contact any of my many, many captains this way before, so I have no precedence as to how it works. In some instances – such as with e-mails – my patience has a very short fuse. I’ll give him one more day, and then I’ll move to Mexico and see if the line of communication will open there. Otherwise not much to report. The day has been sunny. Walked to the vampyrs and had blood drawn to check on my liver because of my newly prescribed medicine to downregulate the cholesterol, a medicine they told me was prescribed to all patients having had the angioplasty with a stent done regardless. The rehab session went well, and the Borg scale no longer seems so scary ![]() Bicycling for ½ hour and did what they called circle exercise – like an orienteering race with in this case eight posts where different exercised waited: Bar bells, a mat to lie down and get up, stairs to climb, a large rather deflated ball to be bumped violently into the floor in order to make it jump high enough for you to catch. To be honest: I’m warming up to this and contemplate how I can continue on my own after this program ends, because I’m convinced they are onto something with their ’interval training’. Pulse up, pulse down (but not all the way), pulse up higher, pulse down somewhat, pulse up … I imagine my heart muscle strengtening by this, and I'm not sure my otherwise OK home exercises and walks benefit it in this particular way. I also dived into a modest social life again having two guys from my condo complex for coffee as a reward for fixing a new pinboards at each entry – something I had promised them half a life ago. I had bought a wienerkringle – wiener meaning Vienna, because in Denmark we call the pastry Americans call Danish ’viennabread’ – and ’kringle’ refers to the pretzel shape - ![]() the one we traditionally have at our general assembly trusting that I had made calorie room for it with all that pedalling. Socializing went better than expected and feared. I didn’t nod off. One of them happened to have grown up in the same close knit neighborhood as me with a lot of families of modest means and at least 50 kids around our age. We both remembered that time of our lives with great joy. ![]() |

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
----------------------------------------Glad to hear things are going well and you're out and about. So am I, acpartsman, but it’s expensive – have been flattened all day. It’s the name of the beast called fibromyalgia. Doing what I did yesterday is 99% certain of inviting that beast inside in all its colors, shapes and forms. You hurt, your brain goes mushy – I haven’t been able to do correct entries in the word games, nothing works, everything goes wrong and breaks …![]() I always hope and trust that I’ll have the 1% day each time I overstep that border I don’t know where is and which constantly moves. Tomorrow will be better ![]() I’ll take my German homework for tomorrow's morning class with me to bed. I also signed up for several hours of lectures aimed at blood clot and people in anticoagulation treatment tomorrow after the rehab. They have a patient association for that. I never knew. Hopefully Friday will be a 1% day. ![]() Still no answer from the librarian. Time is up. I joined our Mexican option and wrote him an e-mail in his capacity of being my new captain. If we’re out of luck, there are all sujo1’s challenges to do while we decide on our third option. The good news is that my country in addition to currently being #2 in the World Happiness Index and #1 in the Transparency International Corruption Index now also is EDIT: This just in: New Zealand is #1 as of today af 1800 UTC; Denmark slid to #2 on the CPI (Corruption Perception Index) ![]() #1 in the Rule of Law Index rated by the World Justice Project We still have room for improvements. Others have more. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 21, 2018 7:57:42 PM] |

I'm sure America is nowhere near the top half of that rating scale. Congrats to Sweden.

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
I heard nothing from our Mexican prospect. My belief in the ’e-mail-your-captain-system’ has rushed downhill ![]() Oh, this was a day for inviting the beast indoors to eat me up again, acpartsman. Two hours of German class, one hour of heart class, three hours of lectures about AK-treatment (anti koagulation/coagulation). They want it to be called ’blood clot prevention’ instead of ’blood thinning’ because the blood doesn’t get thinner from the rat poison – it just takes longer to coagulate. Say you have the for the treatment ideal INR (International Normal Ratio) measurement of 2.5 it means that your blood takes 2.5 times longer to coagulate compared to the blood of a normal person. Therefore someone like me carries tissue to wrap around a finger cut and bandaids in her handbag. Were I not such a nitpicker, I wouldn’t have corrected the brilliant number for Denmark in the Corruption Perception Index and for the same reason I need to mention that it was New Zealand that pushed us away from that top position. Surprisingly, Sweden is way down at a shared #6 with Singapore. The rank of the USA in the three areas I mentioned yesterday is not all that bad – in fact it’s fairly good: #14 in the World Happiness Index out of 155 countries #16 shared with Belgium in the Corruption Perceptions Index out of 180 countries #19 in the Rule of Law Index rated by the World Justice Project out of 113 countries ![]() |

Wow, I wonder what those stats are based on? I can't believe the US ranks that high, sounds like one of those internet polls that only a few people respond to.

Good Morning Base Campers!
Still no Mexican captain answer, so it seems as if Base Camp shall just swoop down on a Maine team without further ado. Maine is chosen because Base Camp’s #1 armchair traveller has expressed a wish to go there – and who can say no to Maine – or to acpartsman’s wish? So all that remains is to decide on which Maine team and when. I’m no expert on Maine whatsoever, so we’ll have to help each other deciding on what to see and do. Kennebunkport, a Shaker Village Museum, Acadia National Park with an enticing coast line, lobsters, the other Portland, Augusta – oh, we’ll find something for sure ![]() I’m in a flare and a brain fog again – quite predictably. An overabundance of physical and mental input - and the limit for 'overabundance' is ridiculously low. I have spent the morning systematizing my Facebook pictures that all have links to my posts here and in other threads. I made albums. That means they all will have their webaddresses changed which means that I have edited the links – I hope – in all relevant posts in the crunching@EVGA Forum, in our Base Camp thread, and in our Base Ball Hall of Fame thread. What remains are all the other threads I have posted in … with pictures. If only I had thought before I acted ... and I wonder how many blunders this mushy brain has made. You have a hard time believing that the USA has such a good standing, acpartsman. Indeed, you are not alone with this pessimistic and in my opinion absolutely unnecessarily glum and unwarrented view of a country that with a few adjustments would beat Denmark in these indexes ![]() I never had any luck changing this attitude when I tried. I think it's a lifestyle ![]() The three entities that come up with the rankings are in my opinion as trustworthy as any. Personally I joined 'Transparency International Denmark' recently. The list of the 155 countries in the World Happiness Report 2017 can be found here. The annual report is made according to guidelines created by the United Nations USA is #14 in the World Happiness Index out of 155 countries #155 is the Central African Republic. Norway is #1. The Corruption Perceptions Index is made by Transparency International USA is #16 shared with Belgium in the Corruption Perceptions Index out of 180 countries and #180 is Somalia. New Zealand is #1. The Rule of Law Index is made by the World Justice Project USA is #19 in the Rule of Law Index out of 113 countries and #115 is Venezuela. Denmark is #1. ![]() |

Thank you, adriverhoef, for communicating Speurneus's sharp observation.
Speurneus and his handler are of course right ![]() I really need auditors like you and him on days like this ![]() I need somebody to write my posts, too, and I need to stay away from wordgames completely. People should be happy I'm not an air traffic controller. I don't know what happened - some short circuit between the neurons knowing 155 and those knowing 113 ![]() I like Speurneus's new style. He has turned into this very elegant - now I may be wrong again, but I think not having once been the neighbor of innumerable sheep guarded by one border collie whom I observed training her young puppy border collie ![]() Last time I met Speurneus he was a bloodhound. A friendly bloodhound. In his bloodhound incarnation he also was a pipe smoker. ![]() Working my way though my picture links I stumbled upon the song you once linked to, and which I wish I had been able to find used during our Hungary trek, and there was something else I wanted to see and listen to it for just recently.
