Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good morning.
I popped in to the SC thread and posted. You'll have to keep me posted on how we're doing in the challenge and when it's over.
I dropped Dave a text to see if he'll join us as well.
It would be nice if we could get Babbott to join us. Don't know who this is but they came out of nowhere and passed me in the stats. That's a real accomplishment.
I swapped out a power hog 16 core Dell R900 last night with a more energy efficient 24 core T5610 just in time for the challenge. biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers!
Thank you for your post above your immediate above post, acpartsman. I can see and understand - and TLD helped me last night by explaining about this issue which I as a foreigner am somewhat removed from - that the debate about guns and gun control is heated and infected. I'm no supporter of keeping mum. That doesn't solve anything, but I realize that if a discussion about this subject apart from a factual exchange of a comparison on how two different counties handle the matter should take place, it ought to take place somewhere else - which it certainly also does.

You mention HOA. What is that? Wikipedia gives some possibilities none of which I can make match ’enjoying life’ with the possible exception of Hardwell On Air, a Dutch radio programme. They can be pretty wild, these Dutchmen. adriverhoef has linked to many surprising Dutch videos, not to mention his own escapades with a 44 foot container in Harlingen, the Netherlands.

Congratulations with you new efficient cruncher.
This is just about turning into a trek with you calling in support from your friend davwhite5xq7!

You keep a falcon eye on your competition
- did you notice deltavee flew over our nest yesterday and left a comment, by the way?
acpartsman, you don’t have Babbott as a Base Camper or a SeriousCruncher team mate
- yet! All of a sudden I think anything is possible
but you have another powerful running mate, because:
blimey, now Doneske has decided to join the fray … What will be next?

As to the challenges sujo1 has entered us into, I shall be happy to give you updates. They are listed on SeriousCrunchers’ team page
Currently we are doing ”Compute for the Cure Feb 2018” where the parameter is results returned for Mapping Cancer Markers. Last night I was too confused to make a note of our ranking, but I believe it was around #15, and already this morning we were at #8 in front of this iconic Chicago-IL-USA (I think we concentrated on this team at a time when Team Kraland and adriverhoef's Dutch Team top40.nl were entered in a couple of challenges where also SeriousCrunchers participated. All three teams ran rather equal, and we circled around Chicago-IL-USA.) I really think we should make a trek to Chicago once we have been to Maine. It would be an interesting contrast.

Well, ”Compute for the Cure Feb 2018” ends by midnight tomorrow, February 28, and just per intuition, I don’t think we can make #1 here in this short span of time. TKizzle’s Team Easynews is so much in front that it must be considered untouchable.
But not to despair biggrin
Captain sujo1 has five more lined up. One of them is a quickie – just three days – but the other four last the entire month of March. This will be fun.

Do you think Base Camp will get to go to Maine anytime soon, acpartsman?

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

We're looking good, that's quite a jump for the challenge.
HOA - Home Owners Association. Some people live in HOA areas, though I'll never understand why. It's basically communism? socialism? dictatorship? at it's finest on a small scale, a few select individuals telling everyone else how their house must look, how their lawn has to be mowed, what plants have to be planted and where, what their toys etc their kids can have outside, what they can and can't drive, how their mailbox has to look....you get the picture. And if you don't follow their rules then they fine you....usually heavily.

Oh well, off to work I go. Got big company coming today, need to straighten up my office a bit before they arrive, I'm told they are super critical about little things that don't matter.
Hmmmmm....sounds a bit like the HOAs. laughing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers
This morning we still stood at #8 in the Compute for the Cure Feb 2018 challenge which ends at midnight – and I suppose it is 2400 UTC which is 0100 my time and 1900 (or 7 pm if you prefer) your time, acpartsman.
SeriousCrunchers has returned 3,267 Mapping Cancer Markers results. Our closest competitor is #7 SETIKAH@KOREA with 3,975 returned results. I should not hold it impossible that we might pass them. #6 is Fight Diseases - Team Germany with 5,061 results. That would be a big jump for us.
#1 is captain Tkizzle’s Team Easynews. It’s untouchable. It has returned 78,910 point results. Perhaps all the members crunch MCM almost exclusively. I know I don’t, because I cannot, but I do where I can. How about you?

Tomorrow at 0000 UTC we’ll start five challenges:
LLBXS78795 * Points * All Projects * 03/01/2018-03/03/2018
Mar 2018 By-points * All-projects * Points * 03/01/2018-03/31/2018
Mar 2018 By-results * All-projects * Results Returned * 03/01/2018-03/31/2018
Mar 2018 By-time * All-projects * Run Time * 03/01/2018-03/31/2018
S#C1803Cancerstopper * Points * Mapping Cancer Markers * 03/01/2018-03/31/2018
Only one has a specific project – Mapping Cancer Markers, and none have participation from Team Easynews as of this time of writing.

Did the HOA copy the bylaws of the Danish Home Owners’ Association?
We have a nationwide one, but that doesn’t dabble in dandelions. It’s economy and property rights.

But enter the local ones: Many neighborhoods stipulate you must be a member of the local plot (we go by plot – not home) owner’s association. There you may meet the types who – as we say it if we don't like it – were born with a Hitler in their stomachs. They love to regulate and tell others what to do in detail. Tiny, itty, bitty detail as to the precise synchronization of the exact time for your 12 oenothera biennises (name in Denmark: Eight o’clock flower) to open their flowers synchronized with your neighbors’ 12 oenothera biennises. Oenothera biennises love to multiply from seeds, so you should make sure they are strictly controlled to a max. of 12 per plot.
Well, to be fair: Those associations are useful as well in several practical matters.

I hope the orderliness of your office met your visitors’ expectations for:
What does a cluttered desk tell about you? angel
Or a clean one for that matter? devilish

My doctor had a tiny clamp she put on my finger which measured how well my blood oxygenates. Satisfactory 97%. However, my heart rate is artificially restricted by medicine, which may cause me to lose my breath in various manners on various days when I try to walk at my normal speed with various luck.

Today we had a Siberian visit where I live
EDIT: Points changed into results

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I didn't worry about straightening my desk, I'd never find anything if I did. Come to think of it, I still haven't found some things since we moved in December. laughing
Visit went well I thought but I guess we'll have to wait for the report. Our owners joined some kind of dealer network. You have to be in the top 50 (I think) dealers nationwide to join. Looks like there's about 20 members. They travel (at their own expense) to each others dealerships as a group and rate the dealer on every aspect of their operation.
I hear they degraded one dealer for having a dozen or so generators in his showroom. Well this dealers parts dept is down some steps so who wants to lug a generator up steps? He is also in an area where generators are needed due to weather so he sells a lot of them.
The way I see it a dealer in southern California can't really relate to the needs of people in Minnesota.

Oh well, off to work I go. Got to put the finishing touches on inventory this morning. First time it's been right in 7 years smile (it's the first time they allowed me to do it instead of getting everyone to do it right before Christmas break. (they all know when they get done they get to go home so they blaze through it and don't care if it's right or not)

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Creative clutter with a system that any overzealous cleaning person could ruin …
Inventory. I hope you have heating. I remember doing inventory the week between Christmas and New Year outdoors and inside large storage halls counting bottles and jars stacked four pallets high at the glassworks where I worked at the time. I cannot tell which was the coldest, out or in.
The first day I stamped in dressed in my nice office outfit, coat and boots. The second day I looked like the Michelin Man (whom you hardly know, but who is an ad gimmick for a French tire company).

My boots were replaced by regular old fashioned clog boots with genuine wooden soles which the men loaned me out of compassion.
The third day I was in bed with a nasty cold.
BTW, I think I'll stick around (at least part of the month, maybe all of it) for the challenges.
he-he I knew you would, and you should applause
But beware, sujo1 is a salty dog. He will keep adding challenges … wink
You may get time off for a trip now and then, though idea
Hurting from biking in time to Dancing in the Moonlight with the load turned way up beat up

Hey, an active team. If they are as active on their team page, that will be a real change from what I've come to know as norm. wink

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

About SeriousCrunchers I would say:

acpartsman, they are not chatterboxes the way I am.
But they are good compared to most teams here.
Maybe Doneske will answer my question some day.
Maybe not.
I don't know him.
Yet.
And with this speed it may take a while.
But in some regards I'm patient.
They are men, SeriousCrunchers.
mike047 says: crunch hard crunch often - and that's what they do.
Your level of communication is far above the average for men as I know them.
Do I need to say I like that?
A lot?
You're always welcome here whenever you want to talk and SeriousCrunchers don't meet your needs laughing

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
With acpartsman safely off to work on challenges with SeriousCrunchers and no Base Camp treks in sight for a month or so
– plenty of time to prepare for Maine –
I thought I should make a peaceful and agreeable post about how adverse weather brings people closer together where I live.
We smile more broadly to each other.
We share a secret: 'It’s an awful weather! Isn’t it exciting!'
We warn each other with glances: 'Watch your step! It’s slippery here!'
We feel a huge warmth of solidarity. We're all in it together. We are in the same boat.
The strange thing is that this very special brothers-and-sisters-in-blizzard evaporates with the last snowflake …

ErikaT, I’m sorry for being a bitch.
I’m an only child.
No-no, not a spoiled brat at all.
If only.
On the contrary.
My parents went to extremes in order to disprove the ’spoiled brat’ doctrine.
I never got that midnight blue blazer when all the other girls did.
I had to beg for a hula hoop.

My bicycle was a used one of a clumsy one trown together of parts from the blacksmith's scrap heap painted in the wrongest of blue colors you can imagine.
I was never allowed to work a newspaper route and earn pocket money
– I had to imagine I did by helping those who had one.
But I had a cat.
And I had books - my own and all those at the library.
And somehow I got to think that I’m one of a kind and that norms, rules, regulations, laws, and constitutions never were for me to observe.
I contest speeding tickets.
I’m not easy.
I’m sorry for being unpleasant when being reprimanded.
Sometimes without being reprimanded as well.
It’s not directed at you, ErikaT rose
You are the messenger who should not be
– well, let’s not even get close to the Second Amendment now –
so I’ll chose to say ’blamed’.
