Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

acpartsman,

Little Mermaid,

We only followed our Danish mascot! Who makes that besides being Crunchers, we meet, share, tell stories ...
I am very happy to participate in the research, but what Base Camp and SeriousCruncher bring is a bonus that is priceless.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you for your finishing comments, stefada.
I never knew many Frenchmen in my life (Francois Mitterand, Charles de Gaulle and chaps of that calibre), and to be honest I had a feeling that they were difficult to be around.
I'm happy to say that getting in touch with Saphir12 and you and not least LouLoup - even as he is Belgian - has changed that view

rose

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Little Mermaid,

----------
From my point of view, the French are chauvinistic (the Bretons even worse). We speak badly, even the French, then the other languages, without comment. And we tend to quickly scream on it.

But beside, we are humans like the others. Someone who comes full of kindness, we know how to welcome him. With great food, wine, and all you have to share.

As we say in Brittany: "It takes time for us to open the door of our house, but once it's open, it's forever."

You started by encouraging the new start of Team Kraland. When we were full of doubts, and not at all sure of what we were doing.
And lately, you introduced Rosie, who will be delighted to walk Louloup, when I would make you visit the region. (I wish we could drink together, IRL)

So, I go a little, but I think you could go anywhere in France, and be well received. (You just have to learn to speak French, for the most part, we're too stupid to learn English well, and Google Trad works only on the Internet)

blushing

Notice : As soon as I have the opportunity to take a picture of Indy when playing freesbee, I share it. Just I have no camera

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

stefada, thank you. I get embarrassed and shy. I’m not built for praise blushing but enjoy it anyway smile
Tell me, please, who is Indy?
Rosie and I speak a little French. Many years ago I worked at a glass works, and my boss had been stationed in France and managed Morocco, Algeria, and Tunesia as well for FLSmidth, a large Danish company making turn-key cement factories. He told how scared he was of the phone ringing and having to speak in French and understand what the Frenchman said … still, he went on to become an MP and Denmark’s first Minister for the Environment. His wife were perfect at French, and for some years I tried to better my French in a class she ran.
I think it was Francois Mitterand who visited Denmark and toured the glass works with my boss’ wife as the perfect guide.

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Tomorrow is D-day for our Maine trek. I’m behind. I have to make this short. I met my upstairs neighbors as they returned from their summer place and spoke about the weather, so I had to go and see. And this is what I saw

Well, I joined Maine Community Grid early this morning, and after the noon UTC update I was able to e-mail my new captain. I studied the team a little closer. It’s a mixed picture. Among the 69 all time members there are some high achievers, but this is better looked at by the Base Campers who understand these numbers better than me. Please have a look
The Captain is not among the high achievers, but if he wants to communicate, it’s good enough for me.

Please – new and experienced – Base Campers join our trek to Maine by KliKing here
We have an analog printed map for those who prefer that.

It’s my intention that we meet at Kennebunkport. Do you remember? The Bush compound.
Sadly, we just lost Barbara Bush. She came across as a pleasant person with a well developed sense of humor.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Hmmm ...

Indy !!! (bêtise)

et

Louloup ... (câlin)

Indy, viens faire bisou. Il comprend aussi, bien sûr. Il comprend tout, suffit de lui expliquer.
---------
Indy, come and kiss. He understands too, of course. He understands everything, just explain it to him.

----------
Indy, that's the real name of my dog. I never wanted to change him, he was already too traumatized ... Louloup is his nickname actually.

And it makes the difference, between:

Indy !!! (Nonsense)

and

Louloup ... (hug)

As for the French, do not really take our policies as a reference. For the most part, they are totally disconnected from the world.
The locals, it's just people like Saphir12, Urden, or me ...

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you, Urden
- first Base Camper to find the way - we get up early in Europe biggrin
The trek will last for 10 days, so we finish on April 30
But you choose for yourself for how long you will stay, Urden
- perhaps team Kraland needs you for a challenge
Indy !!! (Nonsense)
and
Louloup ... (hug)
Does that mean, you use Indy when you want to say no-no
and Louloup when you need a hug or when Louloup deserves one?
- which must be almost all of the time rolling eyes
I love this phrasing, stefada love struck
For the most part, they are totally disconnected from the world.
The locals, it's just people like Saphir12, Urden, or me ...
Yes. And I met too few of your kind kind smile and getting to know you a little has turned things around for me.
Congratulations with one more new Kraland team member rose

Good morning team. Off on another great trek. Too bad we can't get Gov. Paul LePage to drop in to the Forum for a few comments.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Little Mermaid,

----------
I do not really know how to explain. When I call him Indy, I'm talking to him as 'leader of the pack'. But it can be to call him to hug. I had a hard time understanding, a friend Master Dog, who told me that I was too kind to him. As he was traumatized when I got him back, I thought I had to be super cool to reassure him. And, if it's true in part, he also needs, for his balance, to know that I'm the boss. And force is to note, that since I am more strict, it is still better.
Louloup, it's like I call him 'darling'. So it's more if he wants it or not.
But it does not really matter. Whether I use his name or his nickname, it will mostly depend on the intonation of my voice. (the base with the dogs)

No comment ?

----------
And for politicians, just to laugh: A few years ago, a TV asked the members two simple questions. The price of a baguette, and the price of a metro ticket. Only one could answer right! No comment?

While the French, finally, those I know, they are good living, who just ask to enjoy life (like everyone?). We drink a drink, we discuss, and if it does, we get food? I caricature a little, but it's not far from the truth. Finally, you can rub shoulders with some French for some time, I think that gives you an idea. And I hope Seb (our new member) will come here occasionally, even if he's really uncomfortable with English. (One again)

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I’m sure I would like any Frenchman who concentrate on living the life he has been granted to its fullest and forget about the politicians, stefada.
Oh, it says in the news that 120,000 are dissatisfied with M Macron and marching in Paris …
I also heard that you need to make yourself the alfa male toward your dog – or where I heard it: Your dogs. Case in point: Greenland. Sleigh dogs. They are not brought up to be pets.
As for me: I would spoil Louloup and never call him anything but Louloup. But then again: I never had a dog. Two cats, mother and son, did their best to train me.

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Welcome to Base Camp’s trek to Maine Community Grid
rose acpartsman
rose davwhite5xq7
rose Doneske
rose TLD
rose Urden
rose yodap@BC

Thank you for coming. That makes seven of us, and we might be able to drum up one or two more. Very good! I have heard nothing from Captain MCM, though. If he doesn’t read my mail or notice the goings-on otherwise, we can only hope that somebody else from Maine Community Grid does, and react one way or another.

As I mentioned yesterday, we’ll meet in Kennebunkport, the reason probably being that I passed there on a trip in May of 1990
we met each and everyone of those vintage 1990 black flies – if we're lucky we may just be too early for them now; I hope so
The contrast between security then and now is amazing.
Before:

After:
I’m pretty sure that it’s a K9 that stands in the sliding door in the old photo although it looks like a goat.
But look at that gathering of special dogs in the new one! shock

The coast is already rocky as a prelude to our travel north. In fact it looks a good deal like the east coast of Sweden along the Bothnian Bay. We’ll make a stop at Scarborough once known as "Owascoag” or the "place of much grass”
they were good at naming places, the native Americans

in order to buy parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme for our dinner.

The next town in line is Cape Elizabeth. We cannot not stop here.
Here are a couple of serious lighthouses: Cape Elizabeth Two Lights

made famous by Edward Hopper's 1927 'Lighthouse Hill ' painting - as enigmatic as any of his works.
The second one is one of the best known in Maine and in fact in all of America: Portland Head Light

This was not my original plan. Talk about distraction.
Tomorrow we’ll go to
Portland.
Portland?
Portland, Oregon?

Perhaps we’ll get the opportunity some other time, but no, for now we talk
Portland, Maine, which lives a shadow life compared to its West Coast namesake, and that’s a pity.
Oh, yes, I almost forgot: We gotta eat, and we'll have clambake - a genuine New England clambake. New England's answer to Texas barbecues. I dug the hole in the sand this morning myself.

But for now we’ll seek out a camping site where all we hear is the breaking of the waves against the rocks.
