Dear Base Camper,
---------- Congratulations to all ! This graph of calculation times is fabulous! ---------- It's not ideal, but I put the badges on my FTP and made a small page to display them: http://stef.bzh.free.fr/bc/basecamp.html Unless Free goes bankrupt, you're sure to be able to use these links there for the badges. The limit is that you will need to remind me to update the next treks. (It takes 2 min so it's simple, just I do not forget) The top, it would be that you open your own FTP (just create a free email address at free). That way you could put the pictures of the badges yourself. If you do that, I'll take care of doing a little script in PHP, which will display all the images in a directory. You only have to add the images as and when, and the display page would update itself. This is for my ideas about the problem of links that have a limited duration. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 11, 2018 3:15:12 PM] |

You're such an angel day out and day in
![]() Thank you very much for your suggetion. I didn't know we had such services. I thank you for your offer. If I decide to use this solution as well, I think it would be the more practical that I establish one myself - in which case I shall consult with you, if I may, please. I do think and hope that the imgur.com links will be lasting ones, and I just finished editing the posts I was able to in The Base Camp Hall of Fame - that is posts that are younger than 120 days. Would you have a smart work-around for those posts that are older than 120 days? Or do I have to do it the hard way ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Also, if any of you find a missing link anywhere, I should appreciate if you throw me a link for the post so I can correct it if it is a young one .... ![]() ![]() |

Little Mermaid,
---------- I do not know imgur.com, you should ask Saphir12, I think that's what she uses. It's a bit silly, but as I studied computer science, I immediately used an FTP, it works every time, there is no question. And then as I know a little HTML and PHP, I can direct a small page if the envy takes me. There, for the badges of Base Camp, it took me 10 minutes. What took me the most time is to note the size of the images (a quibble on my part, the display is a little faster if you specify the dimensions, so the browser does not have to calculate them on the fly). What makes me think that I have not answered to why from one browser to another, you see or not the old images. It's very simple, it's that chrome keeps the pictures in the cache. That way, it does not reload an image it already has in memory, which speeds up the display (but does not update the image all the time). It's a little simplistic as an explanation, but I hope it will be clearer for you. To return to the badges. If you do not want to bother you, you use the links of my FTP, and when there is a new trek, you ask me to update the page. It should not be bothering you, it's really nothing to do! To tell you how simple it is: It is enough that I copy the image on my hard disk, then that I put it on my FTP. Then I add a line by copying / pasting, where I just have to change the name and size of the image. And here it is, updated. Explaining it here may have taken longer than if I had to do it. If you want to be able to take care of it alone, the best in my opinion is that you open your own FTP. And you'll see, it's very easy: 1) Create a free email address on free.fr. De facto, you will have the associated FTP. For the example, I do as if you had basecamp@free.fr 2) You install the FileZilla program. It will allow you to transfer data (badges) from your PC to your FTP (Free's servers), and vice versa. 3) You launch the program, and you should have an interface like this: ![]() At the very top, you have to enter the connection parameters: Address: ftpperso.free.fr | User: basecamp | Password: XXXXXXXXXX | Port: Nothing, it is by default. ==> Click on Quick Connect In zone 1, there will be messages to tell you that the connection is established, etc. In zone 2, you have access to your computer, so you go to the directory where you have the data you want to publish. In zone 3, with a right click, you will create a new directory, which you will name 'badges'. (I anticipate the future, be it the simplest). Then you click on it to open it. Finally, in zone 2, you right click -> send, on all badges one by one, and you should see them appear on your FTP. Once this is done, you should be able to see all the badges in your browser, with the address: http://basecamp.free.fr/badges/image_name.jpg If you do that, to begin I make you a clone of the page that I showed, but for your FTP. There is not even for 5 min. And I would see me back to PHP, to make a little script. Like that as you add badges, the page will update itself. This is the story of a few days, the time to remember how it works . ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 11, 2018 4:54:46 PM] |

![]() You sent me right down memory lane. I made webpages back in 1998? for our construction and carpentry business. I used a program called Microsoft FrontPage. I had made everything ready, but I could not connect to the server space we were allocated at our ISP. I was very frustrated. I put a question up on 'Usenet' - do you remember 'Usenet', stefada? And who answered - a 12 year-old boy who had not gone to bed a 0300 o'clock in the morning. 'I'm just a little .... , but try 'Tiny FTP', he wrote. - it was a Canadian program, and I bought it and renewed the fee each year. And I had a webpage running having transferred everything without any problems using 'TinyFTP'. Right now I went deep down in the innards of my computer and found all that material. What a sentimental journey! I also made a webpage about a trip to Vietnam in 2001. I'm sure I could handle your suggestion, stefada; however, I think the imgur.com solution is the faster. And if Saphir12 uses it, I'm sure it is good. Please don't get disappointed, and don't think it's a rejection. I just try to economize a bit with my time, angel 36 hours per day seems to be too little; I just applied for expanding it to 40 |

A thought:
----------------------------------------And I think this is exactly what you offered to do, stefada ![]() The new thing is: I have started listening to people wiser than myself. Not at once, but on an afterthought with some delay ![]() It would be a good idea to have Base Camp's most precious crown jewels stored with you, stefada. Could you download from this link using the 'Quote' button? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() and FTP them to your place? Also, the normal Rosie ![]() and the special Rosie ![]() it would be good to have safeguarded with you, if you would, please. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 11, 2018 5:45:41 PM] |

Little Mermaid,
---------- I do not know Tiny FTP. I am a little 'old school' when it comes to using a computer. And I understand that you do not want to bother with that. Just remind me to update each new trek!
It's very basic, but these images there, you will not be able to lose them. (I just saw with Saphir12, we lost the one for the homepage of Team Kraland) ![]() |

Little Mermaid,
(Jamais utilisé Front Page, le bloc note ça va très bien, quand on sait faire) ---------- Yes, we lost two pictures for the homepage of Team Kraland. But Saphir12 has already redone the links, I just have to change the page a little. And she uses imgur.com well, so it's also limited in time. The ideal remains to have an FTP. And for me that's the easiest thing. (Never used Front Page, the notepad is fine, when you know how to do it) ![]() |
