Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

to Base Camp's trek to The International Team Fossaw!
Everyday things are built by companies. It is in their interests to specially make things for their own products, and then copyright or trademark them. That way, you have to have the right charger, or holder, or whatever. If there was a standard, people could buy the charger, holder, etc. from cheap second source suppliers.
Yes, Fossaw, that's the shortsighted view of these companies as we discussed here
I could understand it if we were talking say Sony and Samsung - but I have three Sonys.
Two of them have a regular mini socket - and the newest one to my surprise has that irregular one.
So Sony may be trying to wipe Sony out of the market .... d oh .... go figure.
International trek on June 9th - somewhere I missed the memo on this one. I'll be there LM.
Thank you, acpartsman. I hope you'll send a message to Dave.
Perhaps we need a reminder:
The address:
The International Team

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

----------
Delighted if the improvised tour of Toulouse pleased you. It's about talking about big cities, it reminded me that that one I like it. In my opinion, it's precisely because when you're in the center, you do not feel like you're in a big city. It's like going from one village square to another village square, except that there are a lot of people. And as usual, the pictures I showed, represent places I know. If we were to meet, that's where I would take you, and basically, on foot from the Capitol (the nerve center of Toulouse), it takes 30 minutes to be in one of these places.

And if you like, especially do not forget to click on the link to the song Nougaro. You may not understand the lyrics, but there are plenty of beautiful pictures accompanying them. And he is sort of considered an 'ambassador' of Toulouse.

love struck

Litlle Mermaid,

----------
I have no news of Urden, it is especially here that he gives it. But as we say at home: 'No news, good news'.

And yes, like everywhere in the world, people go to cities for work. In Aveyron, many leave to study, and only return for retirement. It's a bit caricatural said like that, but it's not far from the truth.

blushing

flodisar,

--------
The trek starts tomorrow, so, safety instructions: Have you secured your belt?

I do not know if you know Base Camp well, and SeriousCruncher, but it's funny! And here I see Eric, acpartsman, etc ...
To give you an idea, the stats of Team Kraland, during the Kraland II trek:

Hours by day :

----------
For the occasion, we had organized the challenge Kraland IX: Return as many results as possible, in a week. For the first time we finish first.

Bienvenu au Base Camp !
----------
Welcome to Base Camp!

peace

Yes, it's very nice pictures accompanying the song, you gave us, stefada.
It's good people return to Aveyron when they get old. That means they like it and probably have missed it all those years.
Good Afternoon Base Campers!

The trek to The International Team is running. Badges are ordered for

Chit-chat
My chronology defect did it again.
I was ½ hour early for my hairdresser's appointment …
Better than being too late and inconvenience people – as I did with the dentist last week.
I saw the heartnurse - part of the rehab program - for second time. She was very pleased with the results of my blood work. My heart rate is to low side;
the reduction of the Selo-zok beta blocker – which she appoved of – may improve a bit on that
even as a slow down is the objective. Also, I may be able to reduce the cholesterol lowering medicine
due to very fine numbers. Everything is fine except for this double fatigue which seemed better yesterday
but is back today. Come September she will see me again and before that I shall wear a Holter Monitor for three days.

No big deal. I did that when I was hospitalized where the signal were tranmitted and broadcast on big screens for all to see.
With our names displayed ....
Mayby a case for the EU privacy maniacs …
The heartnurse has a special name, which I asked how was pronounced, and she gave me the story.
Her husband’s grandfather was Hungarian and was enrolled involuntarily into the German military during WW II.
He became an officer and was stationed in Denmark during the last leg of the war.

On Bornholm.
Denmark’s eaternmost island. Closer to Sweden than to Denmark.
Upon the Soviets’ arrival on Bornholm
– Bornholm was occupied by the Soviets for almost a year after the war was over
he was sent to Copenhagen to report what happened. And that may very well have saved his life,
because all the remaining German troops were shipped to prisoner camps in the Soviet Union.
Grandfather, however met a Danish girl, and the rest is history …
As to the Sony cable connections I had an answer. It was so illogical that I did not understand fully what the man meant,
so I asked for clarification. It seems as if the USB-C will be the standard in the future and the micro.
He said: ’Almost all current phones on the market today from various manufacturers have changed over to USB-C’.
It is almost a clear statement.
He says Xperia L has the micro whereas the Xperia L1 and L2 have the USB-C. Mine - the name is D - is an L1.
Saphir12-Nathalie is reported back from Sweden already for pickup.
That was fast.
I hope they haven’t touched her software.
I forgot my shirt at the café where French teacher Karen and I had lunch yesterday.
That gave me the opportunity to go get it and look at the beach and indulge in an open sandwich
A busy and good day … I could not have stood that through a week ago in spite of feeling fatigued today.
Yesterday and today in pictures

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

stefada:
Those numbers look great, I am strapping my belt on as I write!
(I have emailed WCG, so hopefully I will become team captain soon enough). Also, very nice Toulouse pictures!

At least the weather should cool down a bit after the weekend, so that's something to look forward to :)

little mermaid:
You're welcome, please tell me a bit about yourself too and your daily life. I've read up a bit, but right now my picture of it is very fragmented. A summary would make the pieces come together a bit.

Thanks for the kind words, and I must say that the alias "little mermaid" also was an indication to me that you are a kind person <3

I love my parents so I wouldn't consider any other option as long as they feel that I am helping them more than the opposite. We help eachother out, basically :)

Had no idea about the "pepper virgin" things in Denmark, I am not aware of such traditions in Sweden though, but the conventions in Sweden seem to be the same with regard to being settled down when turning 30.

I guess you are right, maybe I am still young (my guess is that you are older than me, since you said I am young, but it is impolite to ask women for their age so I won't) :) But I have never had someone of the opposite sex looking my way in my life so far, and I can't blame anyone either - IRL social interactions especially are not in my favor, and yeah that part of my life is a mess so it is what it has always been.

Oh, I do actually have a sibling, a sister. How about you, any siblings?

An International Team 2.0 Trek? Yaay! :) I hope that I'll be a Team Captain by then at least ;)

"Hey, flodisar, it's so nice having met you and getting to know you!"
Thank you for such heart-warming words. I'd like to tell you the very same - it is not very often that I get to meet such nice people like you and all the other Base Campers.

Oh, on the Samsung picture:
It is an old phone that I removed the battery from, and then I used an old 12V DC adapter from a router, connected it via a Buck converter (the red circuitboard on the right) to get the voltage down to 4V (to mimic a battery) and connected the output directly to the battery terminals in the phone instead. Then I installed BOINC app and could crunch WUs without having to have a battery there taking a beating from it. A fun project :)

Whoops, time is almost 2AM so sleep is imminent. Good night everyone!

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

flodisar, thank you for finding the time to apply for your captainhood
As to my life story, I have contacted WCG as to how much storage they can allocate
- the cloud included blushing
idea subsidiarily I'll boil it down to the size of shelf length of The Library of Congress - all buildings and annexes included
But since you haven't looked in my Forum Profile yet, I can recommend that.
Be prepared for an unpleasant surprise. Not only am I a woman - but as Bearcat of Minnesota Crunchers
a wee bit undiplomatically said 'I didn't think a woman that old crunched!'
not talking or something to that effect

Doneske - welcome to the trek hugs
This is how the points graph looks this morning
- and we only just begun

If you want to go on this trek, please join The International Team

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

please tell me a bit about yourself
'a bit?' You'll regret you ever asked, flodisar.
right now my picture of it is very fragmented
Good. My smokesceen, hat and blue glasses work – I need absolutely no help protecting my privacy from the EU whatsoever laughing
A summary would make the pieces come together a bit.
sad A summary? crying No novel?
OK, a summary might do.

I am a peace child, born in 1945. Let me do the math for you. 72 years now.
Only child.
No children of my own.
Lived with ex for 45 years, married for 40 of those. Doomed from the beginning. 'Till death do you part'.
Talk about stubbornness.
Short technical assistant education.
Worked within many fields – the longest at Holmegaard Glassworks and as an octopus with a consulting engineering firm.
All the while also the octopus at ex’s and my small building/carpentry business, designing houses, bookkeeping, what have you.
We went belly up in 1982 – interest rate 25% - bad for construction. Very bad.
Were employed with a Danish couple in Poughkeepsie, NY, who owned a Danish design furniture store on Main Street.
Ex was to install a Danish line of office furniture they were to begin to importing. I should do accounting and such.
Hourly pay $3.25
I almost died the first time I was to report weekly payroll to ADP. English! on the telephone!!!
Their filosofy and ours differed a lot so our ways separated very soon.
We moved to Rhode Island where I had a pen friend who had a friend who was a builder and hired ex.
Being a tradesman of Danish apprenticeship framed houses were a breeze for ex,
and he started his own business and I read the tax code – thicker than the Bible –
and imported raingear from Denmark hoping to make a wholesale business. How do you compete with Taiwan?
We bought a building lot. Designed a house. My eyes crossed. Did you ever try designing a house in feet and inches?!
Or for Americans: Meters and centimeters?
Built a house. Well drilled into bedrock. Leach field, one and a spare area.
Everything very different.
We did 2x6 framing insulation in walls, floors and ceiling - everything very different to the Chepachet building inspector.
All ex's gear was a ladder he had hammered together himself, and when I passed with my raingear,
we raised one more framed section.
We lived as illegal aliens. Didn’t go to Canada or Mexico.
In spite of all attempts
- you wouldn't believe how many lawyers they have in Rhode Island! Some of them with flaky ideas
we could not change our status. Received a voluntary departure order. Did go to many places of the USA, though.
Ex was revered. Installed kitchens for two dealers and did whatever work resulted.
Geezz! The customers paid deposits in advance!
The banks closed in Rhode Island. Our money was frozen.
Everybody’s money was frozen. Rhode Island was frozen.
We had built a large house with another builder and had that for sale along with our own.
We needed to go back to Denmark.
Old parents – you know that, flodisar
Finally, it all came together, and on a cold and dark January night
we handed our voluntary departure order to the clerk in Logan Airport, Boston.
She rushed to her backoffice … very pale.
We later approached the US Embassy in Copenhagen and told we overstayed our visas,
but would like to visit in the future and they hammered new ones into our passports.
I found an indention in my right breast in 2002. It was a cancer they found when it was removed.
They checked the lymph nodes on the first day of 2003
– a blizzard almost keeping us from reaching the hospital
Nothing had spread.
I looked around on the internet and found UDGrid.
They way people spoke to each other on the Forum was so soothing for me. I looked and read often.
Especially Scribe (Alan) was my favorite. I joined.
Ex didn’t like this. I left. Ex didn’t like any of me. We divorced.
I moved to my present condo found WCG and a lot of old friends,
but after a while my mood deterioated to a point where I had to leave.
The divorce cost four years of miserable mood – but all of a sudden
- and it was so sudden I cannot believe it to this day
it was a new day. The next one was, too.
I began to live because I wanted to live – not because of forcing myself to do it.
I joined the WCG again and it’s a major part of my life – I feel all the crunchers are my chosen family.
Some I know pretty well and have even visited. When I visited Guitar Man i Poole, Dorset, England,
I had the good luck to say hello to Scribe (Alan) rose who said his long goodbye while I was away.
You must remember Scribe, flodisar.
I had a blood clot of the heart in January. I was lucky. All went technically far better than I could imagine.
I have traveled a lot with ex and after ex on my own.
My life is very rich these days. My ’family’ here, good real life friends, actually more than my payload of fibromyalgia
can handle the way I would like to be honest, many activities, ex has a new female, but we can speak.
I sounds like a cliché, but it’s the truth:
I have never been happier in my life.
I hope your picture of me is less fragmented now, flodisar smile

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Thank you, tanner2. 72 years are a lot of years lived. There may have been some gaps.
Maybe there still are - but they are not thigh gaps … laughing ... I'm a mermaid.
Have you planned to join this trek, lil’ brother?
Good Morning Base Campers!
Shop talk
TLD has joined the crew. Welcome, Ted cool
Sorry about the MREs – fire hazard, you know – you have to eat them cold …

- but if you catch something we could make sushi sick
The good news is the M&Ms
I always found it so cute, so cute that American service men get to get sweets – chocolate, cookies, what have you
So cute and in many ways juxtaposed in my brain to their trade - I don’t think they do that in Denmark
Fits so fine with this, picture – I have used it before. Isn’t it lovely?
I keep thinking of it and have saved it for future use.

- he has surely given all of his cookies and candy to that little French girl
- at all that from his comrades’ rations as well
acpartsman welcome
We cannot make hot coffee or hot anything. How about a coke?
We have MREs to eat cold. sad I hope you like sushi in case TLD catches some good Swedish fish sick

I picked up Saphir12-Nathalie. They erased everything in Sweden crying
I just switched the SIM-cards and memory cards from D to her
and downloaded BOINC. I'm not up to doing it all over again just now crying
And I'm such a lucky woman in many, many respects.
That's why my key operated differently - it was about to break.
Lightweight aluminum doesn't last forever. It could have broken on the outside or worser:
It could have broken inside the lock and blocked that. But it broke on the inside before I inserted it ... lucky me!

flodisar, I have not addressed what you have told us properly.
I’m working on it.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

----------
I do not know if it is related to the visit of Toulouse, but today I see life in pink!
And yes, I got the ruby badge for SCC, so now I have them all (except TB). It remains for me to do the same for emeralds.

Unrelated, I have the arms that pull me everywhere, as well as the legs, and the left hand filled with blisters; But I am very happy.
I spent the morning at my parents home, to remove a tree stump with the ax. Dad was delighted that now he will be able to pass the mower quietly.

biggrin

flodisar,

----------
If I do not say nonsense, you should be named Captain 15 days after receiving your email.

wink

little mermaid,

----------
Could you show us the calculation time please? That point number is not really significant.
