Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

imgur.com should be 'forever' now (for the time being) according to Wikipedia

Images
Imgur used to have a policy to keep images unless they went three months without receiving any views, at which point (unless they were Pro account images) they might be removed in response to space needs. In early 2015 it was announced all images will be kept forever (even if not added from a Pro account) and only removed if deletion is requested.

But I agree. Being independent is #1.

BladeD came and went so fast that you cannot believe it ...
He's so much of a numbers man that I trust he put in what is necessary for a hippo badge.

acpartsman promised to alert Dave when he sees him tonight.

Thank you for the pancakes, stefada
Good Morning Base Campers!

The runtime graph as of this morning looks like this:

BladeD arrived biggrin

10 badges – so far

Badges
I kicked myself in the behind.
The links to our badges come from uploads to my Facebook account
– I have even recommended this method to others blushing
and those links have an expiration date. That means that The Base Camp Hall of Fame
when viewed in Internet Explorer have these little boxes with an ’x’ in them indicating that the link doesn’t work.
When viewed in Chrome, however, nothing looks wrong.
How come?
Is there a better affiliation between Google and Facebook than between Microsoft and Facebook?
Anyhow, I have uploaded all our badges to Imgur.com so I have more durable links, hopefully.
That doesn’t fix the problem, because I cannot edit any posts that are older than 120 days which several of them are.
I shall replace the links in an edit where it is possible, and I can copy and paste as new posts the ones
that cannot be edited as soon as possible.
idea If any of you have ideas to a better and quicker fix, please let me know idea

Flodisar
You raise a lot of existential problems, which I would like to discuss with you.
My concern is: I’m afraid to do more harm than good.
You are a very factual guy – very emotional, too – and above all extremely unselfish. I’m glad we met.
I think interaction here – in your team thread, Base Camp’s or anybody’s
- we accept few limits
could provide a break for your brain which is tied up with real life problems and obligations.
But also joys as you report.

Did you have the chance to watch any installments of ’Broen’?
- The Bridge - it's about police cooperation bilaterally between Sweden and Denmark and the cross the bridge all the time

I don’t watch much TV but caught a few episodes from the library streaming service.
I was fascinated by the character Sara Norén – the Swedish detective.
She was an Asperger bordering to autism as I saw it.
No fuss. She met a guy and asked directly in her first sentence to his surprise if he wanted to go home with her.
The morning after she said he was ok. They could meet again. It was a business transaction on her part.
She had felt a need. She took care of that need. She saw him as a useful tool. He was utterly confused.
I don’t think you have any of the mental ailments you list in their pure form. I think you have a bit of everything
– a bigger dose of this than of that, but nothing serious – just like all of us.
I think you need a day off. All princes and princesses need a Roman Holiday

I shall copy your post and think everything over, and reply as carefully as I can to the things I think I can
– and even that may be daring.
It’s your life, and choices are so difficult. Don’t let yourself down; you have obligations to flodisar, too.
On one hand you like it and don’t want it otherwise – on the other hand you feel a void.
I wish I could waft a magic wand – but only you can decide ♥

The International Team numbers look amazing, thank you everyone! <3

Little Mermaid:
You are extremely good at catching things even over pure textual communication (by incident my preferred path of communication), you clearly have a gift for it.

My apologies to everyone if my posts have touched upon some subjects that perhaps should not belong in a team thread. I am often overtaken by emotions I suppose, tiredness may contribute to this too and when writing at night, well it would probably have been better it I had the chance to write during daytime. As I have activated the display of email address in my forum profile, all are welcome to use it too, and we could continue there Little Mermaid, if you like. Don't be afraid to do more harm. I won't blame you for anything, on the contrary I am afraid to burden other people with my problems, but as you so clearly identified there are emotions in me too that just take the overhand at times if the preconditions are there. For better and for worse.
You have already been so kind that I wouldn't dare to ask more of you or anyone, so I completely understand and respect any decision.

I'm not usually a TV or TV series kind of person, so I have unfortunately not seen "Broen".
Movies and TV usually have very rigid assumptions about autism and Aspergers in general (when in real life it is so multi-faced and a spectrum) I feel, so that people easier can identify and build a character with certain traits. I haven't seen Broen, so I shall not draw any conclusions beforehand about it though.

Roman Holiday sounds nice! :) I have a countdown app in my phone and I use it to count down seconds left till important dates. At this moment I do not yet know when vacation will commence, but as soon as I have a set date there will be a countdown for it. Hopefully there will be some sort of vacation by mid of July though.

I shall go to sleep a few minutes earlier today so that I do not wander off in all directions possible and impossible.
Good night and sleep well everyone.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Flodisar, I’m glad you’re all right after having been in my meat grinder.
Ever so often a lack of normal inhibitions make me overstep other people’s limits.
But you and I seem to understand each other pretty well in writing.
Thusly having been given the green light I shall happily proceed on a personal line.
biggrin
Perhaps it’s so that you have some very well developed tentacles for the emotions of others
because you try to please your parents and fulfill their wishes even before they are expressed?
I guess that living with a man for 45 years who remains a mystery to me to this day
– actually most men do to a larger or lesser degree
has turned parts of my brain into some monitoring super instrument
– sonar, radar, scanners, you name it –
that has not even been invented yet,
honed and tweaked in order to enable it to try to gauge a mood – pick up even the weakest of signals.
Something similar may have happened to you even as you are so very young.
On the other hand you have been around your parents from birth, although they were healthy to begin with.

Being so much focused on other people and their needs tend to drain you.
You neglect your own needs, or you do not think you deserve to get those needs satisfied.
The name I gave the condition made people roll their eyes:
Love deficiency.
As we need vitamins we need love.
Often we go to extremes to get what we need without knowing what drives us.
And some need it more than others, but nobody is immune except for very rare cases.

My mentioning keyboards as a favorite hardware was an attempt of joking.
I write around the clock … I have a laptop with no choice of a keyboard per se
but I see beautiful ones – backlighted and sleek ….
A keyboard is as important as a set of lungs wink

No, I don’t want to know about overclocking … another attempt of joking pulverized, flodisar …
If anything, I would like to know how to keep my Sony Xperia M5 a little cooler
without stopping computing Wus and this is meant somewhat seriously.

Thank you for putting up your e-mail. You will hear from our Base Camp friend,
so I’ll skip the Parkinson’s part – not that I don’t care,
but since we have a specialist on board …

Your father’s back is a horror story of pain.
Another friend here, Bearcat of Minnesota Crunchers, has gone through his second surgery
for fusing more discs in his spine not long ago.
What has been done about your father’s spine? Can more be done?

It’s good that you live close to each other so you don’t waste time on transport.
My sister has luckily managed to get a real life with a fiance
Well, I hope somehow you will, too, flodisar. Not that your life isn’t a life – it’s fulfilling in many ways –
but let’s face it: You long for something more, something different, and you deserve it.

Yes, municipality is a better word. Denmark is divided into 98 ’kommuner’/towns/municipalities
which cash in taxes and which governs schools, roads, a lot of things
inclusive of care for the sick, old, and disabled
- home care, rehab, food service, personal hygiene, laundry, cleaning,
anything that helps keeping people out of the much more expensive nursing homes.
In the principle it is good, but rather restrictive, and you have to fight your way.
Tell me, does this happen in many families all over Sweden as far as you know?
You must have some kind of assistance system.
Well, they talk about ’involving family’ in Denmark, too ….

I’m sorry to hear about the decline of the standard in Sweden
which used to be at Denmark’s level – or better.
Being short of money doesn’t help either.
In between all you do, I’m glad you find joy in walks, talks, eating together and plain being together.
The downside is of course, I am not really "out there".
Yes.
You could play soccer, cricket or go to a strip-tease bar, go to museums,
make friends of both sexes in language classes, join a reading group, be active in politics,
anything that could give you and your brain a distraction and a rest by doing something else.
Could you in any way rationalize and systematize your chores
so they leave you some breathing space reserved for yourself?
Sometimes a new look at things and how they are organized – or not
can free up some time.
And it is not a sin to care for oneself.
I realize it is much easier for me to suggest everything,
and that you would have to jump a lot of hurdles to do follow just one of them.
But what do you have to lose?
And if you don’t succeed with one thing, you could go on to the next. No harm done.
… but at least I'll have something to look forward to
I hope you’ll find that in real life, too. You deserve that (cannot be repeated too often).

Next post
I think I try to read not only the lines but between them as well, flodisar.
Often I’m wrong in my conclusions, but in contrary to many people
you have been brave enough to talk openly, and that makes everything a good deal easier
– and then there is my 45 years of training as earlier mentioned.

You have not touched upon any subjects that don’t belong here.
Everything belongs and can be said here
– except for a few 4-letter words the Americans otherwise use a lot devilish

Come as you are, say what you want, you’re welcome and accepted.
Even as nobody else might answer, I know they read and think
- and they may wish they had your courage.
You are no burden here.
You need to vent.
sujo1 of SeriousCrunchers needs to vent when people occupy his home.
You are under a good deal of pressure.
Emotions are more than welcome – said by she who is characterized as
’being too emotional/feeling too much’.
What would we be without emotions and feelings?
Zombies …

I used the Sara Norén character from ’Broen’ to illustrate that
I think you’re far from Asperger’s and autism.

Yes, why not order a Roman Holiday from a travel agency?
Contract with your sister and her fiancé and a home care company and
take a plane to Rome … and join all the excursions they offer.
Have you ever travelled?

and do have to rejoin if you really want that hippo badge biggrin
davewhite5xq7 has not showed up yet
EDIT:
Forgot to mention:
I made a contract with keithhenry for our vacant August slot to crunch with MOT - My Online Team

The Gossip Column
The Forum had a rare visit from sunfolk – and as always, I had my hopes up.
Well, he posted in Hexagame and the dormant Poetry thread.
Maybe next year … in Jerusalem or New Zealand.
Could have been fun with two New Zealanders on the team.
Our host, flodisar, had news already from WCG, so we can expect him to be named Captain soon.

History
When Base Camp had the castle
- our own Forum that was demolished
we used to have new Base Campers introduce themselves.
Would that be an idea?
You may make it as short and as cryptic as you are comfortable with in this age of privacy.

Our newest Base Campers
Speedy51 may contemplate staying on with The International Team
Perhaps you would like to make an introduction, or perhaps allow me to say a few words about you?

DeliciousShoesHD, how is Base Camping seen from your perspective?
How are things where you live? Are you in Ljubljana?
The closest I ever was to Slovenia was Udine and Trieste in Italy.
It’s so many years ago you would think it’s a lie.
Also going to a semi-communist country as it was at the time was not all that normal in those days.
I do remember the coastline at Trieste as very pretty, though. Does that continue into Slovenia?
EDIT: I'm sorry, DeliciousShoesHD. A prime example of me being too tired for my brain to work.
You told me you
live in Celje, which is the third biggest city in Slovenia :)
The bright spot is: Your name works every time idea

Hi-tech
You hadn’t expected that, eh? cool
After asking Sony to clarify, they answered this way:
’Unfortunately, we cannot answer about what the future will bring.
USB-C is the new standard for USB which in all probability will be seen for a number of years on all phones.’

There you go! There will be some changes wink
And as always, we invite everyone to join our trek to The International Team

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Yes. I like the simplicity.
Easy to make and easy to load.
Those 'heavy' websites with lots of ads take forever to download

.... this one is so fast rose that's nice smile

----------
That's because I learned 'old-fashioned' computing, when the hard drives were the size of a current Ram. In fact, my first computer did not even have a hard drive. So I've always been careful that what I code is fast. It's a bit ridiculous nowadays, but I do not know how to do otherwise. Simplicity is to facilitate maintenance (updates). Your request was not to have a super nice page for Base Camp, but simply to be sure not to lose the badges. Well, I took ten minutes, and it was settled. If you're a little curious, right click to look at the source code of the page, to see how simple it is. The meta tags, it's just a copy / paste (we also see the link to the .css is useless), I like that what I do is a clean minimum. And then the list of images, with the complete url (and not relative), the size of the images, and the alternative text, that is how the display is the fastest.
I think that with this model, you could even add the lines for the new badges.

For me, a page or a program must have a purpose, and it must be achieved with the minimum of resources possible. I do not like sites that 'flash' everywhere. I did one when I passed my Bac + 2 (I do not know foreign equivalents for this diploma). It explains to beginners what is IRC (the oldest chat system), and serves as a reminder to those who already know (list of the most common commands). While it is simple, I still optimized the code (PHP), so that once the first page loaded, it goes faster for others. (For those who like the technique: There are instructions for the tables that serve as menu remain in memory in the pre-processor of the server, which greatly accelerates the generation of the page)

If you want to look : http://stef.bzh.free.fr

Et si vous voulez venir sur IRC, vous pouvez me trouver sur le réseau : irc.langochat.net , sur le salon #biere-entre-potes. Mais en temps réel, vous risquez d'être déçus par mon niveau d'anglais.
----------
And if you want to come on IRC, you can find me on the network: irc.langochat.net, on the room #biere-entre-potes (beer with friends). But in real time, you may be disappointed by my level of English.
