Thank you for the pancakes, stefada. I'm so impressed with you and Fossaw have done in the stone age of computer technology. Norrköping We are in Norrköping, Sweden, on the east coast where the Baltic Sea has narrowed into the Bay of Botnia. You may have noticed. It was not easy to hammer down the pegs when we raised our tents. We are on bedrock. Alfred Nobel made his money solving that problem. With dynamite. Amy Diamond was born here. There is water everywhere. The river Motala, an inlet and the Bay of Botnia. Mermaid territory! I studied there at a high-school/gymnasium the first three years (third year I was offered to study a technical preparational year at the University at the same time. I did it and it was Hell On Earth trying to study 100% with high school stuff aiming at highest grades and trying to do my best at the University at 100% too). I almost crashed hard, but I'm used to taking beatings and dealing with them in my own way so it didn't stop me. Little Mermaid, you managed to make Norrköping sound so much better than I can remember it! When reading your description of it, I almost want to go back there for a visit. Stefada - I will convey your message to Dave. Somewhere I've heard the same statement about friends and I would have to agree as it would be quite amazing to have 5 true friends.

acpartsman,
---------- I can not remember where it comes from. But yes, having five real friends, I do not even know if it's possible. 3 years ago, I was not well at all. Most people (whom I thought of friends) walked away from me, see me downright. There is only one who has acted as a true friend. One day he told me very calmly: "Now you stop doing anything, you take your dog and your PC, and you come to live at home for a while". I spent three months at home, to put the ideas in their place. And the joking life, soon after, it was he who needed my help for 3 months. He, even if he comes at 4am, the door will be open. That of course, to have helped when we were at the worst, it creates a very strong friendship. It's rare and precious, a friend like that. I hope things will work out for Dave. ![]() |

Do I like to have you on our crews ![]() davewhite5xq7 will have an honorary hippo badge Linköping There are many cities in Sweden ending in –köping as in Denmark ending in –købing meaning ’market town’. ’köp’ /’køb’ means ’to buy’. The farmers came into the market square with their goods to sell and the townspeople bought their goods – mainly foods. This is still going on just for the sake of ’hygge’ and tradition in many market towns. To be honest I did not check as I should have done and landed us in the wrong –köping ![]() It was pure luck that flodisar had a connection to Norrköping by having studied there. Linköping is a bit more to the south – closer to Denmark – and a bit more inland -a clear disadvantage seen from a mermaid point of view flodisar doesn’t think all that much about it, I sense. Let’s see if we can make it a bit more attractive to him. For one thing we find a monumental cathedral in gothic style. Whether you are religious or not, of this observance or another, you need to visit it. I do it as often as possible because of the architectural and cultural importance of these structures. So, please step inside with me and bend back your head and feel it. Vaults do something to you, don’t you agree? ![]() They have a university in Linköping, and there is a library ![]() On a walk through the old city we will find wooden houses centuries old. Little Mermaid,
----------------------------------------Visite très intéressante, merci ! Un petit détail cependant, concernant la cathédrale qui est très jolie. Les voûtes en ogives me font plus penser à l'architecture Gothique, qu'à l'architecture Romane, où elles sont arrondies. ---------- Very interesting visit, thank you! A small detail however, concerning the cathedral which is very pretty. The vaults in ogives make me think more of the Gothic architecture, than the Romane architecture, where they are rounded. You're absolutely right, stefada.
----------------------------------------In fact I had written gothic to begin with when I stumbled upon roman at some website I can no longer find. I thought: 'Hm, that's strange, but perhaps it has some hidden roman elements ....' but thought they were cleverer than me and corrected. Now I have corrected back, stefada. Do you bring pancakes tomorrow, too? [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 14, 2018 9:35:04 PM] |

-------- We have a problem with the pancakes, you have already eaten them all! (It must be said that with half-salted butter and marmal jam) But we can not stay like that, so I'll teach you how to make a fire, even with fire hazards. The essential tool is to have a shovel! You have to make a hole, surrounded by stones. Do not waste time looking for water, contrary to what is believed, it is the least effective. A pile of sand to throw on the fire, it is the top. Earth otherwise, or shovel. Firefighters have what is called the fire triangle. It takes a fuel, an oxidizer, and heat. If we can remove one of the three, we put out the fire. Very often, the easiest way is to remove the oxygen, the oxidizer. Now that we know how to make a fire safely, grilled bacon? ![]() |

First of all, thank you for the picture of that magnificent church, stefada, which I forgot to say
OK, we'll make a fireproof camp fire as to your specifications and have sand and shovels to quell the fire should anything happen nevertheless ... ![]() - and yes, sure, a bit of bacon would be very nice, thank you ![]() |

There are many cities in Sweden ending in –köping as in Denmark ending in –købing meaning ’market town’. I would like to add the following to this.’köp’ /’køb’ means ’to buy’. In Dutch, 'to buy' = kopen. There are lots of Dutch cities, villages and hamlets ending in -koop (*), but that doesn't have anything to do with kopen ('to buy'). It seems that a 'koop' (in old Dutch: 'cope') was a parcel, a section, a lot, e.g. peat, that someone was allowed to reclaim against payment of an annual amount of tax. On the other hand there are lots of Dutch places ending in -markt ('market'). Even solely "Markt" exists as a place name and - oh wonder - there are at least 18 villages and hamlets called Markt in The Netherlands. |

Thank you adriverhoef.
All of a sudden I was afraid to be wrong about -köping/-købing, so I had to check. I was right about that as opposed to the roman/gothic style. While looking, I came upon the ending -køb which has evolved from for instance Tiwitcop -> Tikøb and indicates a property acquired as a purchase exactly as in the Netherlands meaning. We have many -køb place names. This ending dates from late Viking age. 'Mark / -mark' is much used. It means 'field' and is unchanged in spelling since the Middle age and has nothing to do with 'Markt' in your meaning - a market square and such. I was born at Tryggevælde Mark (inside - it was in November) and I have lived in Fensmark. I must have had a field day ![]() |
