Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I almost didn't dare to play your they're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!
because I know it will resound and resound and resound in my head ...
if I can get away with just one day, it's be fine!
Well, the Dutch don't turn it the other way
he-he in 'The Undutchables' they more than hinted at the Dutch having a tendency to stubbornness …
they're using it that way because you can't say 'meer of min'
You mean YOU, the Dutch – for everybody else it works fine laughing

Our ships go down with ’mus og mænd’ as well – but mind you: ’mus’ is the same in singularum and plural.
It could be one single mouse and more-than-one man.
But it isn’t.
I have no idea how we decide there are more than one mouse on board ships. thinking
- there must be some finesse to us anyhow .... sad

Another alliterating expression is 'met man en muis' (with man and mouse) in the sentence 'het schip verging met man en muis' (= the ship went down with all hands). What's typical here is that 'hands' has the same meaning as the Dutch word 'hens' in the expression 'alle hens aan dek!' (= all hands on deck), while the Dutch word for 'hand' is (the same): 'hand'
Here I really see why I’m 'the primitive northern tribe!' smile <it really bites> crying blushing
We stick with men and assume they have hands to do the work needed to be done on the deck.

We have ’sikkert og vist’ – like the Belgians rose
But, we’ve got it wrong, the Belgians and us Danes, of course
… it should be ’vist og sikkert’ ..
that just doesn’t have the same ring to it ....
batting eyelashes

Hey LM, you have been traveling so much that you missed getting the Uncovering Genome Mysteries badge! sad
I found it a mystery myself, BladeD, and just looked into it. I run three android phones
- Saphir12-Nathalie is currently hospitalized in Sweden crying again!
and I just acquired a tablet (no name yet).
They cannot run MIB sad it seems.
Besides, I have my two-core laptop which is allocated to TB, and it's slow; one WU can easily take 60 hours

- perhaps I use all the power talking laughing
I should have a machine like your new one cool
which is so fast that ....

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

I'd say 2, Base Camp hasn't been there since an earlier incarnation.

EDIT: After looking at the team, Base Camp has never been there as far as i can tell. Don't know how we missed them back in the day? shock
Right on, we never were there.
I don't know why. I have a feeling we did not interact very much with this team at the time.
Now it all comes together
- the rebirth of the team with a communicative captain and Base Camp filling a void.

And YOU can fill a void, too, when we do top40.nl 2.0 biggrin
you didn't do top40.nl 1.0 wink

Do you have a suggestion for August, TLD?

Another alliterating expression is 'met man en muis' (with man and mouse) in the sentence 'het schip verging met man en muis' (= the ship went down with all hands).
Our ships go down with ’mus og mænd’ as well – but mind you: ’mus’ is the same in singularum and plural.
It could be one single mouse and more-than-one man.
But it isn’t.
I have no idea how we decide there are more than one mouse on board ships.
The expression is singular, but 'we' just know, we derive, that plural is meant. wink

Three more alliterating Dutch expressions are:
- met man en macht (pronunciation) = with might and main — again switched words smile: macht = might
- taal noch teken (pronunciation) = no sign of life
- kind noch kraai (pronunciation) = kith nor kin
— It may sound strange, but the 'ch' is in Dutch pronounced like you're clearing your throat, the same as you would pronounce a 'g' in Dutch. There is no sound like it in English, but it is like J in European Spanish and it is found in Hebrew and Arabic.
Examples: ga! (= go!), geel (= yellow), glad (= slippery), grijs (= grey), graag (= gladly), genoeg (= enough). wink

Pronunciations added:
- min of meer
- met man en muis

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

The expression is singular, but 'we' just know, we derive, that plural is meant. wink
Or maybe it’s so that mouses always comes in mices … wink
Being from that primitive northern tribe shows all time blushing
met man en macht
would be med vold og magt = with violence and might/power
and you will notice that if nothing else we do have the order of the words correct,
thinking that doing it the Ductch way will be regarded as correct biggrin
taal noch teken
– for the good of me I cannot think of a similar idiom in Danish, but if the ’taal’ goes, everything goes,
so it’s a very good wording.
We could use har hverken hørt buh eller bæh = have not heard whether buh nor bah
buh and bæh referring to the way cows and sheep ’talk’
kind noch kraai
is also a refined expression we cannot match. We could use revl og krat
- min of meer the vegetion you find in heaths
but that’s more to the low class side and would be best covered by the English ’lock, stock, and barrel’

The pronouncing of ’ch’ and ’g’ would probably be the biggest stumbleblock to me next to rolling my ’r’s, but, you gave a good tip:
The Spanish ’J’ – José, Jaime, Juanita, Aranjuez
I never thought of it that way.
I should have.
It works biggrin

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Afternoon Base Campers!
Thank you for putting so much life into our 'team thread' smile
Shop talk
Not much.
Yesterday we issued a general invitation to each and every cruncher visiting the Forum.
We also put one up at the EVGA Forum. Hopefully yodap@BC will come.
Let me repeat:
The International Team trek begins on Saturday June 9 – or as you please – and lasts for one week – or as you please.
The address is: The International Team
So far the badge suggestion has not been shot down - it's still

Chit-chat
Today has be a very good one for me.
My fatigue seems to have returned to the normal range, and the pain picture has been manageable as well.
I have had a bit of energy and I speeded on my way to an event at the hospital where they monitored me for five days.
The theme was 'What is important to you' meaning that the health personel want to ask their patients this ....
There was a performance by one of our best female comedians who was twice hit by cancer - two models.
Her attitude was: "Why NOT me?" as opposed to "Why me?"
You can fight or give up.
She has written a song for the Cancer Association in Denmark
"Et øjeblik" - it means "A Moment" but in this instance the translation into
"That moment" would fit better - it's the moment when you learn you have cancer and your world stops. For a moment.
Speeding is always a good sign. So is dancing with the car …
I wanted to travel …
I’m not minded for alternative medicine but a reading group friend had recommended me a healer who mastered all the disciplines – zone therapy – all the mysterious things, and I made an appointment yesterday
… and I cancelled it.
My intuition and instinct warned me against giving up milk, normal vitamin pills, calcium supplements – and COFFEE!
Twice I did something contrary to my inner better advice: The Vagifem HRT and the group therapy.
Time to listen!
I ascribe my improvement to halving the halved dose of Selo-zok - just the name!!! – the beta blocker.
My heart rate is still low but I function far, far better.
Normal miserable me … I’ll take her any time tongue
