Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

NixChix thank you for reacting to me getting a TB emerald smile
I have done much of the work myself, but in all honesty
36ish OldChap has given me an Xtreme push along the way.
You're welcome. BTW, is this how we can display our trek badges earned (see signature below)? I am looking forward to the Crunchers4Life badge.

Cheers coffee

Now that's nice, NixChix. Sometime I show off with a line like this:

And some have flashed their Rosie. You have no Rosie yet, NixChix, but it won't be long
- because it's a pleasure to have you along smile

Yes, the one that Little Mermaid was just teasing us with in her previous post. I am excited that we will begin the Crunchers 4 Life trek next week. The badge reminds me of my recent trek up to Angel's Landing in Zion National Park in Utah, USA a few months ago with my son. Some spots of that trail were a climb like that depicted on the badge. One step forward is a drop of several thousand feet in the photo below that is atop a rock "fin". The other direction was a drop of only several hundred feet. hypnotized

Cheers coffee

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

NixChix - I agree with BladeD (for once) - what a wonderful picture!
Do you mean to say you can hike vertically there without the extra gear of a mountain climber?
Just hiking shoes? worried
And a son to give you a hand smile
I can never grow tired of those red rocks.
On my very first tour to the USA with a mainly Swedish group of people in 1984 one of the many great stations were Zion.
The views made me mute … That’s something very few things can do! Besides, the color scheme in my home
– a pink (one shade of the red rocks) and a bluish green (like sage brush)
are chosen because of Grand Canyon, which we also visited – and has been revisited several times.
stefada, are you about to establish a black market for our badges
laughing

- sorry, Captain adriverhoef – maybe not may still linger
and make a WCG-wide public announcement. The more the merrier, right?

Not now that top40.nl is on the brink of moving up in the challenges and we're so near, needing every little bit?

No vertical climbs. The trek is like climbing a giant stairway; though some steps are quite high. The chains seen in the photo are in place nearly the entire length of the upper trail and are needed to either keep from falling off a narrow shelf or to pull oneself up. Sometimes my son helped with the pulling.

The lower trail from the trailhead on the road far below is paved all the way up to the canyon rim (where the trail joins the rim trail), but is quite steep in some places. It is at the junction where one finally sees the climb to the summit and where many turn back. A Google search of Angels Landing Trail shows many of the incredible sections of the "trail".

I have been to the Grand Canyon too and hiked a bit down into the canyon with my son, nephew and brother. Both are beautiful places.

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

NixChix, you can tell me from now till Christmas Eve that this is not dangerous.
As we say in Denmark: 'Not ten wild horses would make me do that!'
You were not with us on our Andrax trek, because then you would know I suffer from fear of heights skull
and demanded to sit in the middle whenever we went up, up, up -
shock and that was often!
There is no way to sit in the middle on that trail, so I regard you as a very, very brave man, NixChix.
I think I could brave the Bright Angel Trail in Grand Canyon
- how come they all have 'angel' in them thinking
angel - do they come and catch you? worried

tanner2 good thing you're giving Johnny Cool solo lessons about Base Camp;
could we think of others in need of a pick-me-up visit?
laughing
- some look happy , though
