NixChix,
--------- If my mother opened a restaurant, she would become a billionaire! I would soon be 40 years old, once she 'missed' a dish, and we were 5 to tell her that it was very good ... But I will make you dream, even if I risk to forget dishes, so there was. Duck foie gras, two kinds. Shrimp, shrimps, crab, whelks, salmon and oysters. The avocados. Small thickets, whose name I forget all the time. And then a stew of boar, which had simmered for 48 hours. Cheese platter and salad. Christmas log. And to taste it, a cake of kings. You will be surprised to hear that I have not eaten anything tonight! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 30, 2018 9:43:23 PM] |

What always stikes me, stefada, is how the French manage to keep slender with all that good food.
We’ll give your mother a free ticket to Finland AND to Outer Space ![]() NixChix, to see such a launch must be awesome! Were you able to hear it as well? Yes, a canopy would be really good. Do they come insulated? And a heater, too. Puppy will love that heater, and you’ll need to grow a beard and wear something quilted yourself. ![]() Good Morning Base Campers! Business I don’t think NixChix should be alone in Finland, so I skated up to him on the frozen Bay of Bothnia. A skating mermaid, right? If anyone would like to join us in a sauna, you will need these coordinates: My Efforts Against Childhood Cancer ![]() Chit-chat I'll spend New Years out of town - you know the routine: Posts will be few and far between - if any ![]() but you're all with me inside my scarred heart ![]() I take this opportunity to wish all Base Campers a Happy New Year - 2018 has been such a pleasure with you around ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() - May they find gold! ![]() |

NixChix, to see such a launch must be awesome! Were you able to hear it as well? No, Vandenberg Air Force Base is 150 miles away from me. Normally the launches are military and unannounced, but lately SpaceX has started using the complex for civilian launches, which have been announced. The military launches would always catch us by surprise and are quite spectacular when they occur just after dusk when the rocket plume is still able catch sunlight at its high altitude, but it is already dark to us. They were rare and would frighten many people who were seeing it for the first time.Cheers ![]() ![]() |

NixChix, that distance of some 150 miles approximates my Denmark from North to South

Real life is hard work... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good Morning Base Campers! Business What a surprise! davwhite5xq7 and acpartsman and emoga arrived even earlier than NixChix in Escher-1 with Puppy and little mermaid and made havoc of MEACC's graph ![]() - what do you say? ![]() Welcome ![]() ![]() Should you ![]() Officially, the trek lasts for just one day: January 14, 2019, but Finland is one huge camp ground - and the mosquitoes are NOT breeding in the depth of winter and snow, so you can leave your mosquito spray and nets behind, but don't forget your hats, scarves and mittens ![]() ![]() |

Little Mermaid,
What always stikes me, stefada, is how the French manage to keep slender with all that good food. LOL !!! ---------- You made me think of Lynda Lemay and her song Les Maudits Français: "They eat bread with foie gras, finding a way to not be fat." More seriously, it's about party food, it's exceptional. In everyday life, steak and pasta is a classic as everywhere. One could not afford to eat like that all the time, that on the one hand the ingredients are expensive, and on the other hand some recipes are very long to cook. For example, a boar stew as we prepared mom: There is plenty of preparation time, plus 48 hours of cooking to simmer and tenderize the meat. There is also a medical side that should interest you. In the 90s (if I'm not mistaken), we realized that in the South of France, there were fewer heart accidents, and that overall we lived longer. The department of Gers, a big producer and consumer of duck, being the one with the least heart accident, and the most centenarians. The research that followed showed that it is related to the way of cooking, and especially to the fats used. To schematize, in the North we cook mostly with butter and cream, while in the South it's more with olive oil or duck fat. They do not have the same proportions of different fats depending on what is used, and it has an influence on health. Note, however, that this difference in North / South dietary habits exists less and less. Junk food also affects France, which has problems of obesity. Finally, as I do not know how to explain the different fats, I did some quick research: Duck fat: good or bad? With a comparative table with oil and butter. Foie gras and your health. Among others, there is the passage: Foie gras contains 40% saturated fatty acids, and about 56% monounsaturated fatty acids. But in 70% of cases, fatty acids in position 2 are monounsaturated, and saturated in only 20% of cases. The foie gras therefore provides a very large amount of monounsaturated acids, close to olive oil (85% monounsaturated acids in position 2), and has no adverse effects on the arteries. |

Treks & Base Camp
We discussed it tonight while dining with Saphir12, she remains captain, that even if we must re-motivate the troops' at least every two months, there are a number of members who let spin without looking. And that's already WU plus for the WCG. On the other hand, I do tourism, even if I stay Co-Captain, that it is a good way to obtain and retransmit info '. So I joined My efforts against childhood cancer, and the time to finish the calculations in progress, I would do just SCC time to trek ... (Except if there are TB, it's so rare as WU, it's all the time 'open') Note : LM, est-ce qu'il y a un badge à mettre au coffre fort ? ---------- LM, is there a badge to put in the safe? That between the holidays of the end of the year with the family and the friends, the more the yellow vests, I did not follow too much the forum. BladeD, I do not forget the script, but I hope you understand that this is not one of my priorities. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 3, 2019 4:17:00 AM] |
