Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Good Morning Base Campers
Outpost Trek #2 - U.S. Air Force @ Collatz Conjecture:
This morning the count showed 22,184,702 points to go. Well, today, Friday, and Saturday ...
What do you say? Maybe some other time.

As was the case yesterday, there is no gossip. Too bad.

Several days ago I linked to the Danish national anthem
as performed by 40,000 soccer spectators at a national game against Sweden.

I consider myself as having two homelands, although the INS as it was called at the time
dealt me a voluntary departure order. When I left 5 years later,
I presented this document to the officials at Logan Airport, Boston.
They got so confused that they almost wouldn't let me out!

Most of the time I spent in the Biggest Little State in The Union,
the one to which the size of broken-off Antarctic icebergs routinely are compared:
Rhode Island
Rhode Island is loyal and share the national anthem with the rest of the country
(in addition to their own, which will also appear here at a later time),
but we have a cute little ditty, which I have found in a several versions on YouTube.
Eventually, I shall pollute this place with each and every one of them.

This first installment consists of two editions.
The first one has lyrics so that you in all future are well prepared
- not to mention the educational value - it rubs off having Brown University here:
Rhode Island Is Famous For You - with lyrics
Olivia was a student at the Rhode Island School of Design, so this one is dedicated to her:
Rhode Island Is Famous For You - video from RISD
Base Camp's invitation to anybody feeling
like trekking and camping with us and share a genuine friendship with
the existing Motley Crew is extended for yet one more day.
Don't hesitate to ask any questions on your mind.
We are here to serve and help
- except for Ghost Plane who has not found any reason for changing being here only for the music ....

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Olivia at Rhode Island School of Design?
The Rhode Island song?
The little mermaid being an illegal alien?
- just love that expression!
Oh, they were nice about it. I showed up myself and explained.
The one INS officer had Danish roots and an anglified Danish last name.
He was kind of embarrassed, said we would get that volontary departure order,
and added that as long as we did not break the law nothing would happen to us.
Still, we could not go to Canada for example.
Well, we could, but we could not expect to be allowed in again.
Neither could we vistit old parents in Denmark and return to our house in Rhode Island.
Upon our return to Denmark, we went to the US Embassy in Copenhagen
and apologized for overstaying our welcome, and could we have a visa, please?
Sure, no problem!
It's my impression that honesty goes a long ways (that's how we say it in RI) in your country.
Hats off to that

cowboy cowboy
may I borrow your hat, please, PecosRiverM?

It helps if you're from a country that doesn't come close to exceeding its immigration quota...

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

Anne-Lise living in Rhode Island!
You could blow me away!
Perhaps you know up the hill in Providence (as we used to say)
and the beautifully restored homes on Benefit and Prospect.
I lived on prospect.
You are very very well traveled, and I'm sorry they were disrespectful to you. My apologies.
What countries have you lived in - or visited, Anne-Lise?

ps. What a wonderful song and that cute cute Blossom Dearie!

Thank you, Anne-Lise!

Re: Base Camp.......The team that isn't

- yes, I remember, Elaine
- also Blackstone Boulevard where Joe Mollicone lived
- and Federal Hill (Garlic Hill)
- and the movie theatre playing foreign films where we saw the
Oscar winning "Babette's Feast" and grinned when we thought
the American spectators laughed at places we didn't understand were funny
- and the men's clothing store where they kept a coat my mother had made in a Danish factory,
and didn't want to sell it just because it was such fine craftsmanship never seen any more
- and I brought my mother there when she visited so she could have the well deserved praise in a land far away
When did you live in Prospect?
When were they disrespectful of me? I think never, Elaine,
- only my ex and me myself were that.
Only lived there and here, but visited Vietnam, China,
Easter Island, Argentina, Chile, Tunesia, Egypt, Kenya,
Greenland and the Faroe Islands (both part of Denmark) and most European countries.
Still a lot remains to be seen on my own, own, own, own
Let's play this one again - has never been up in our own team thread, I think:
Out Of It

Good Morning Base Campers
Outpost Trek #2 - U.S. Air Force @ Collatz Conjecture:
The next but last day of this Trek we lack 19,561,793 points in having assisted U.S. Air Force in reaching 200 mio.
I think we shall settle for being satisfied with whatever Sport's spreadsheets and pies will show.
Worse: No way could we get the airmen and airwomen to talk.
Dan Holtz, you and I tried hard. Our best result is that alephnull decided he was sort of a
Base Camper, decided to join us, and will tag along with his favorite machine on our next Trek.

Again today the rumor central has not picked up anything. Nothing!
Is that about to become normal?
I hope not. devilish

TLD, I can see you have worked tirelessly all the time I was away, and I know you have worked
like several Mustangs ever since I returned (read: wild horsies
- if you prefer to read muscle cars from when you were really young that's fine, too)
One late night when you were at it, a PM rolled in from Lone_Wolf.
"Who's that Imagine?", he wanted to know.
I explained to him that you work so hard that you are two, and that
Imagine was created a long time ago as a Ghost Captain,
so that we should not fall victims of piracy,
as had happened to other teams in the UD days. So when you are really hard at work,
Base Camp's Forum's "Who's online" lists TLD as well as Imagine.
Well, you have your well deserved Rosie, already, TLD. What can I do?
I could link to a song, I hope you like just as much as I do.
Thank you TLD for all you did and do. rose
Imagine - with pretty pictures

All you crunchers out there, please, remember:
Base Camp is constantly looking for New Campers.

Oh, yes, let me share with you some of the ordinary things I saw walking to and fro Geocache 3:

Yep! Would have liked to talk to him in earnest
- but he was one of the difficult ones
- they are not easy
- sort of like
- but you cannot help loving them
- some of them
