Re: smilesmile Join "MyOnlineTeam" Today - Chapter 23 smilesmile

Hope Dataman and Blizzie are doing okay. The California weather is making the news now and it sounds worse than what Dataman said. They're talking about 145 MPH gusts in the high mountains shock along with the 10+ feet of snow. In sounthern CA, the sandbags are filled with gravel - for the areas burned in the latest wildfires. Here in the deep South, we look to be starting to thaw out. We're getting above freezing at lunchtime now and the mid-teens temps at night and near 0F wind chills may be behind us - for now. Down in Florida, they had snow near where NASA launches the Shuttles - just flurries tho. [/insert your global warming joke here]

On the good news/bad news front, I just hit 200K credits with BOINC this morning. The second 100K sure went faster than the first. My P4 is acting up - the fan seems to be misbehaving - but if all goes well, that will be addressed on Monday.

Today in Northern California it is a good day to go back to bed and pull the covers over your head!!!! crying I’m doing well so far. Not much rain (0.36”) so far but you could fly a kite made out of lead. The sustained wind here is 13.26 right now with gusts to 46.96. The barometer is down to 27.91 in and still falling. The wind tore my windmill to pieces some time last night and I use to have some wind chimes in the front yard ... I’m not exactly sure where they are now.

Snow level is high at 6K’ but is to drop to 3K this afternoon and to 1,500 feet by tomorrow. Truckee and above is getting snow at about 6”/hour. Winds at the peaks have been reported above 100 mph with gusts that may get to 145 mph (but no one lives up there) with over 10 feet of snow expected.

I'm going out to check trees to see if I have even more firewood sad

Later ...

EDIT: No trees down but the windmill is a total loss. sad Looks like the post bearing broke allowing the blades to touch the tower. Anyway, it is scrap metal now. It use to charge a battery that powered the lights around the pond. I guess the fish will have to hibernate in the dark for the rest of the winter. biggrin

It raining harder, getting colder and the snow level is dropping. Looks like we are in for an interesting weekend. wink

I have a 120 mm case fan that I'm not using anymore (upgraded to a much more hardcore version). If you think it will help your heat situation and you want it, let me know and I'll ship it to you.

Looks perfect. I have 3 APC's ... 2 1500VA and one overloaded 500VA. That's a good price. Also it easier to find replacement batteries for APC ... they last about 2-3 years.

WOW ... this wind quickly gets annoying. Still getting big gusts to 45 mph. It's raining hard now and have lost my satellite signal. DSL and power are good ... for now anyway.

Thanks but my P4 is a laptop from work. About lunchtime Monday, I should be all fixed.

Good luck Dataman. With that kind of wind, odds are that some tree will come down somewhere and take out those last two. The EMC here does a pretty good job keeping things trimmed back from their lines (and thus the phone lines too) but I still have a 6500W generator on hand just in case. I was warm as toast and busily doing laundry during the last ice storm. Many years ago, I hiked into an area in the north Georgia mountains over the New Years weekend that had just gotten electricity the year before but still didn't have phone service. Spent the night in sub-freezing weather with heavy rain/sleet mix and high winds on the side of a mountain. This was with just a tent, bag and water. Day or two without food wouldn't hurt and there were humans within a few miles. My idea of roughing it now is considerably different. laughing Hey, at our age, we're entitled. biggrin

biggrin Yes Keith, at our age we are deserving. biggrin Backpacking was my thing. I’ve been all over CA, NV, AZ, OR and Northern Mexico. There is something humbling and energizing about having only what you can carry. But these days the mind is ready ... but ... the body has “issues”. sad

Well, storm 2 has rolled through here ... still going on in the high country. Was no big deal on rain but the wind gusts were higher than I’ve recorded here since I started the weather station. But compared to what happens in the Gulf and the South East most years, it was nothing. We are weather wimps in CA ... when we get some, we get very excited. wink According to the media, every time it rains it is the “Storm of the Century” ... when it snows it is a “White out Blizzard” ... and when the wind blows it is at “tornado levels”. I got a kick out of the national news today about the 10+ feet of snow and the 145 mph wind ... at 14k feet they fail to mention. Up there only the deer and mountain lions care. laughing Compared to what the rest of the country/world goes through, we live in 365 days of paradise. cool Let's see what storm 3 brings. cowboy

It looks like 85-90 results in PV are the equilibrium now and flat lined around 35-40K points.

Cheers!
